The main aim of this study was to see if any major difference(s) existed between ISI and Non-ISI English medical research articles in their application of major moves. To this effect, 36 randomly selected online articles from each group were subjected to analysis using Fryer‟ s moves analysis framework. These articles were chosen on the basis of ease of accessibility, publication frequency and reputation. To test the hypotheses of this study, a Chi-Square Test of Independence was run to see if there were any significant differences between the number of moves employed in each section of ISI articles with those found in non-ISI articles. Overall, findings revealed that articles in both groups had significantly adhered to the major moves specified in the study‟ s framework. Detail descriptive data analysis showed significant differences between the two groups in the use of Move11 (State the Limitation). It was found that 72% of the researchers in Type 1(ISI journals) had described the limitations of their studies while only36% of the authors in articles of Type 2(Non-ISI journals) had done so. However, the most striking similarities were seen in Move1 (Present Background Knowledge) and Move 12 (Conclusion). These moves were employed by all the articles in both Types of journals. In addition, two new moves named, Introduce Methods (M3) in the Introduction Section and Sample Selection (M6) in the Method Section were identified during analysis. Though the use of M3 was found to be insignificant, M6 was used by more than half of the articles in both groups. Overall, it was concluded that since articles in both groups had significantly adhered to the major moves specified in the study framework, other underlying criteria besides the application of common moves may exist in choosing articles to be published in Iranian ISI medical journals. These findings contribute to genre research and provide input for further analysis in this context.

During recent decades publishing articles in academic journals has become a worldwide urge for all members of academia. There is, however, a widespread belief according to which more value is given to the articles published in internationally-recognized, high standard journals. An issue raised in this regard is whether the articles published in highly prestigious journals are remarkably different from those published in other journals as far as their contents and rhetorical styles are concerned. Taking the organization of information/moves into account, the present study seeks the probable differences existing between the two groups of 32 research articles (RAs) randomly selected from among Iranian ISI and non-ISI medical journals in English, published between January 2008 and February 2009, through analyzing the Introduction and Discussion sections of these articles based on the model presented by Nwogu (1997). The results of Mann-Whittney U and correlational tests revealed that Moves and Sub-moves have been exploited with quite similar frequencies in the two sets of the articles. The frequent use of Moves/Sub moves in the sections not commonly stated in the literature, use of meta-discourse markers in the corpus, some marked implications of the findings of ESP genre analysis of RAs as well as some other findings have also been discussed.

This research applied a factor analysis statistical method to study the validity and reliability of ISI-6G identity Questionnaire. The questionnaire has a well internal consistency. Its validity was tented through a simultaneous implementation against goldbery General Health Questionnaire (G H Q - 28) among high school students in Isfahan. Findings show that the Identity style Questionnaire has a high validity and thus it can be used as a useful instrument for evaluating identity formation from an information processing perspective. It is recommended that the psychoanalytic characteristics of this questionnaire be studied on other age groups and clinical as well as non-clinical populations. The paper also suggests that other personality variables be studied.  

Thanks to the ever increasing number of scientific journals, it seems essential to rank them qualitatively even more than before. ISI is one of the first and most accredited organizations that by defining some indexes has provided precise criteria to assess the quality of scientific journals. In this article there is an attempt to present a brief review on the background and various evaluation criteria and at the same time certain indices in ranking the researchers.

Due to diversity and quick dissemination of information, journals have a higher number of audiences when compared with other information carriers. Nevertheless with the emerging new information technologies have contributed to the appeal and thriving of journals, Open Access Journals in particular. The present paper intends initially to discuss the open access movement that gave rise to the emergence of open access journals. It would then introduce modes of open access as well as the characteristics and definitions associated with OAJ. This would be followed up by a classification of OAJ along with their advantages. Means for financing such journals as well as directory of open access journals would be also discussed. Finally, the OAJ covered by ISI as well as those published by the top 20 countries who lead science production are presented.
