Abstract:

Background: Although a few studies have shown the positive correlation between patients’ serum concentration of 25 OH-Vitamin D3 and type II diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and insulin resistance, there are controversies regarding the relationship between 25 OH-Vitamin D3 as a risk factor for cardiovascular atherosclerotic diseases that has to be cleared. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between the rate of 25 OH-Vitamin D3 and the presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in Patients with suspected CAD.Methods: This study was a cross sectional study that has been conducted in the department of cardiology in Imam Khomeini Hospital complex in collaboration with endocrinology research center. In this study 178 patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) were enrolled. Based on their history and clinical findings coronary angiography was performed in all patients. Severity of CAD has been assessed by using Gensini score, based on their coronary angiography findings. The relationship between severity of CAD and their serum level of 25 OH-Vitamin D3 was evaluated. Serum level of 25OH- Vitamin D3 was measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method by Euroimmiune kits (from Germany). Results: Of 178 patients, 50 (28.1%) were female and 128 (71.9%) were male. Mean±SD of their ages was 56.2±11.8 years old. Significant coronary artery stenosis (stenosis more than 50% luminal diameter) was observed in 91 (51.1%) of patients. Mean±SD of serum level of vitamin D3 in patients with CAD was 45±35 nm/l and in patients without CAD was 55±44 nm/l (P= 0.047). Mean±SD of Gensini score was 26.3±21.1, as well. Therefore correlation coefficient between 25 OH-Vitamin D3 and Gensini score was -0.262 (P= 0.043).Conclusion: Although there is a trend toward association between deficiencies of 25 OH-Vitamin D3 and the presence of CAD but their association is not statistically significant. For achieving more convincing findings larger studies are needed.

Abstract:

Introduction: Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has been used as the material of choice in joint replacement prosthesis for the last three decades due to its excellent physical and chemical properties. However, UHMWPE’s wear and oxidation in the long term leads to osteolysis and limits the lifespan of this polymer. One of the effective methods to prevent oxidation is presents of α-tocopherol in UHMWPE matrix. But the presence of this additive alone does not improve the mechanical performance of UHMWPE. On the other hand, the use of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) has been shown to improve mechanical properties due to their exceptional properties such as elastic modulus and high surface-to-volume ratio. However, finding the optimal concentration of MWCNTs and vitamin E to improve the mechanical properties of this polymer is very vital and important. methods: In this research, to investigate and compare the effects of carbon nanotubes on the properties of UHMWPE/vitamin E composite, two composites were produced, one containing 0.2% by weight of vitamin E and the other containing 0.25% by weight of vitamin E along with 0.5% by weight of MWCNT. Results and Conclusion: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) reported an increase in the characteristic peaks of PE-E/CNT composite compared to PE-E composite. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) reported about 7% increase in crystallinity in PE-E/CNT composite. Dynamic thermos mechanical analysis (DMTA) also showed improved elastic properties in the PE-E/CNT composite compared to the composite containing vitamin E. Finally,

Background: Typically 20-80% of changes in sports performance traits are related to genetic factors. To date, more than 200 genes related to sports performance have been identified. The VDR (Vitamin D receptor) gene can play an important role in cell proliferation, differentiation, and contraction process. The aim of this study is to investigate a variant of the VDR gene in athletes as a genetic marker in determining sports talent. Methods: In this research, 100 professional athletes in 2 groups, men and women and 100 healthy non-athletes with normal BMI were included in the study as a control group. After obtaining informed consent, blood was drawn to determine the genotype of rs10735810 polymorphism or FokI locus by ARMS-PCR method. Data analysis was done with GraphPad Prism 6 software and the Chi-squared test. Findings: The number of people with the F/F genotype in the athletes’,group was 23% and in the control group was 65%, as well as the people with the F/f genotype in the athletes’,group was 64% and in the control group was 20%. The number of people with the f/f genotype in two the athletes group was 13% and the control group was 15%. Also, no significant difference was observed from the comparison of genotypic frequency in the two groups of female and male athletes compared to each other. Conclusion: This study showed that the effect of the f allele is only in the heterozygous state which indicates the gender-independent effect of this polymorphism in the population.

Abstract:

Introduction: Fertility means the ability to have a child that is one of the causes of family formation. Several factors can affect fertility. Micronutrients are essential for the body's anabolic and catabolic activities, so they may be effective factors on fertility. Therefore, this study was conducted with aim to determine the role of micronutrients in male and female fertility. Methods: In this review study, the Persian databases of Magiran, SID and the English databases of Pubmed, Scopus, SID, Elsevier, Web Of Sciences and the Google Scholar search engine were searched using the English keywords of Infertility, fertility Infertility, Fertility, Male Infertility, Semen, Semen Parameters, Systematic Review, Clinical Trial, Case-Control, Female Infertility, Micronutrients, Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Antioxidants, Folic Acid, Zinc and their Persian equivalents in the period of 1990-2020. Numerous quantitative and qualitative studies that were similar to the present study in terms of content were selected and evaluated. Results: Among 1052 articles, 22 studies which were more related to the aim of the present study were selected and evaluated. The results of reviewing the studies showed that the consumption of micronutrients including vitamins D, E, C, A, zinc, iodine, selenium, folate and omega-3 fatty acids can play a role in improving male and female fertility parameters. Deficiency of each of them has been seen in infertile men and women. Conclusion: Since nutrition has moved towards ready meals and lifestyle has moved towards a sedentary life and as a result, the body does not meet the essential needs for basic activities, it seems that the recommendation to consume micronutrients in men and women can prevent many fertility problems and reduce the cost of infertility treatment.

Objectives(s): Considering the significant increase in vitamin D deficiency and its role in women's health, as well as the diseases and complications caused by it, vitamin D deficiency is undoubtedly one of the most important health priorities. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of education based on the health belief model on the consumption of vitamin D supplements and its serum level on middle-aged women visiting Ahvaz Comprehensive Health Center. Methods: This study was conducted on 70 middle-aged women visiting health centers in Ahvaz who were facing vitamin D deficiency. The serum concentration of 25 hydroxy vitamin D of all women was measured on two occasions, upon arrival and 3 months after the end of the intervention. People were divided into two groups of 35 people (experimental and control group). Education based on the health belief model was conducted for the test group. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 26 statistical software and significance chi-square, independent and paired t tests at the level of 0. 05 significance. Results: The two groups were homogeneous in demographic variables before the intervention. The average age of the participants was 40. 2 with a standard deviation of 7. 7 years. Before the intervention, there was no significant difference in the mean scores of the health belief model constructs, supplement consumption behavior, and serum vitamin D levels between the experimental and control groups. After the educational intervention, the difference between the two groups was significant in terms of the average scores of the health belief model constructs, supplement consumption behavior and vitamin D serum level. After training, serum vitamin D concentration of the intervention group increased significantly compared to the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the design and implementation of educational programs based on the health belief model can improve vitamin D supplement consumption behavior and vitamin D serum levels in middle-aged women in the study.
