Abstract: 

Nanoparticles of Mn0.5Zn0.5-xCdxFe2O4 with x varying from x=0.0 to 0.3 were prepared by wet chemical co-precipitation method. The structural and magnetic properties were studied by using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) technique. The lattice constant increases with increase in Cd content. This increase in the lattice constant is due to larger ionic radii of the Cd2+ (0.97 Ao) ions as compared to Fe3+ (0.64 Ao) ions. The intensities of the planes (220) and (440), increases with increasing Cd2+ion concentration. This shows that Cd2+ ions occupy tetrahedral A sites and octahedral B sites in the nano dimension against their chemical preference for A site. The line width (DHpp) and the g value of the Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal decreases with increase in the Cd content. The magnetic moment of all the samples up to x=0.2 calculated from EPR studies are lower when compared to the theoretical values. This lower value of magnetic moment confirms the existence of non collinear magnetic structure arising due to significant amount of spin disorder existing at B site.

Abstract: 

FOUR DIFFERENT MODELS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AND TESTED USING EVOLUTIONARY POLYNOMIAL REGRESSION METHOD.CONSIDERING THREE CLAY TYPES INCLUDING INTACT, FISSURED AND LEDA CLAYS, THREE POLYNOMIAL MODELS HAVE BEENPRESENTED FOR EACH ONE AND A FOURTH ONE FOR ALL CLAY TYPES USING A WIDE RANGE DATABASE OF IN-SITU (CPT)AND LABORATORY (OEDOMETER) TESTS. MODELS HAVE BEEN TESTED USING NEW DATA (NOT USED IN TRAINING STAGE) ANDCOMPARING WITH TARGET OCR VALUES. RESULTS WERE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH REFERENCE VALUES FROMLABORATORY TESTS AND HAVE BEEN COMPARED WITH EXISTING METHODS. OVERALL, MODELS HAVE GOOD PERFORMANCEIN COMPARISON TO AVAILABLE APPROACHES.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Acute renal failure is a common consequence of sepisis due to concurrent renal ischaemia. The role of nitric oxide (NO) in endotoxaemia and in ischaemic injury in the kidney is not well defined. Material and Methods: In this study we have used an animal model of sepsis induced by injection of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in the rat and measured renal nitric oxide by X-band electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy using the spin trap Fe2+-N-methyl-D-glucamine dithiocarbamate [Fe(MGD)2] given by intravenous injection 6 minutes before sacrifice. Results: The characteristic EPR spectrum of [Fe(NO)(MGD)2] was observed in kidneys of rats treated with LPS for 5h. Rat kidneys subjected to 20 min ischaemia and 5 min reperfusion had lower concentrations of [Fe(NO)(MGD)2] (1.0 ± 0.6 (M) compared to the contralateral nonischaemic kidneys (1.5 ± 0.9 (M, P<0.05). Conclusion: This study shows reduced levels of NO after renal ischaemia in vivo.
