Abstract:

Background: Educational environment is a major factor for teacher and student’ s health, comfort and academic performance. Nowadays, technology improvement in classroom environment has exposed the users to ergonomics risk factors. The aim of this study was to assess the ergonomics of computer lab from student and expert’ s point of view. Methods: This analytic descriptive cross sectional study was conducted in the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences in 2016. Noise, lightening status, classroom environment and anthropometrics adjustment between students and class furniture dimensions were measured with sound level meter, luxmeter (Hagner EC1), Computer Classroom Environment Inventory (CCEI) checklist and anthropometric kit, respectively. Results: Results showed that space environment, work space and computer station were not satisfactory but visual space seemed appropriate which was consistent with student’ s opinion. Subjective and objective evaluation of acoustical comfort was not desirable. There was not any match between student’ s physical dimensions and furniture dimensions except the under table space which was consistent with the students opinions. Conclusion: Ergonomics intervention in order to increase the ergonomics conditions of computer lab should be considered.

Abstract:

Introduction: Generally every organization's success relies on its employees' efforts as well as their job satisfaction. Identifying the factors leading to job satisfaction among faculty members could be useful in increasing their satisfaction and motivation for efficient educational and research activities. This study was conducted to determine job satisfaction rate among faculty members of University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study performed on 94 faculty members of Tehran University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences in the year 2008. Data was gathered through a researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS software using mean, standard deviation, and Principal Component Analysis. Results: The mean and standard deviation of faculty members’ job satisfaction was 72.6 ± 16.91 out of 135. The mean and Standard deviation for the domains under investigation were as follows: Economy (7.00 ± 2.212) out of the total score of 15, education (9.31 ± 1.81) out of the total score of 15, research (11.47 ± 2.41) out of the total score of 20, administration (13.95 ± 3.29) out of the total score of 25, motivation (26.77 ± 5.81) out of the total score of 50, and welfare (4.11 ± 1.47) out of the total score of 10. As a result of Principal Component Analysis of all domains including motivation, research, economy, administration, education and welfare it was revealed that motivational domain with the score of .847 was the most effective and economic domain with the score of .657 had the least impact on the job satisfaction of faculty members. Conclusion: Faculty members were almost dissatisfied with their job considering different mentioned domains. This satisfaction was a little more desirable in the domains of education, research, and motivation compared to the domains of welfare, administration, and economy. Educational leaders and administrators need to ensure more job satisfaction and welfare for faculty members through strategic planning and defining appropriate goals.

Abstract:

Introduction: Students are one of the key stakeholders in the higher education system, and the low quality of life or their life satisfaction can be a starting point for deviating from the mission, ideals and strategies for the development of higher education and learning. The aim of this study was to investigate the students’ quality of life, subjective well-being and the relationship between them among students of all educational levels of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences in the academic year of 2016-2017. Method: In the present correlation study, the statistical population included all undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students in the academic year of 2016-2017. The final sample size was 213 people and the samples were selected by a stratified random sampling method. In order to study the students’ quality of life, the Mehdi’ s University Quality of Life tool was used. Golestani Bakhat questionnaire was used to measure the subjective well-being. Data were analyzed using t-test and structural equation modeling in SPSS and AMOS software. Findings: generally, 17. 1% of women, 23. 1% of men, 23% of undergraduate students, 15. 9% of graduate students, and 16. 1% of PhD students had a range of satisfaction between high to very high. Also, 19. 4% of women, 19. 2% of men, 20% of undergraduate students, 19. 3% of graduate students, 19. 4% of PhD students and 19. 6% of the total sample had a range of satisfaction between low to very low. The most satisfaction of the students was first with their friends and then satisfaction with university cultural diversity, satisfaction with the university library, satisfaction with the job prospect Also, the least satisfaction was attributed to the satisfaction dimensions of university communication services, sports facilities, welfare and recreational facilities, university transportation facilities and medical services. According to achieved mean score in each dimension and total score, the mental health status of the total sample (M=180. 56), female students (M=180. 14) and male students (M=181. 42) statistically was higher than criteria score (M=156). In the other words, subjective well-being of the studied sample was at a desirable level. Based on the results of fitted regression model (GFI=0. 925, CFI=0. 919, RMSEA= 0. 082), about 15% of the variation in the students’ quality of life was explained by the dimensions of subjective well-being. Discussion: The students’ quality of life is a multidimensional construct and its decreasing or increasing is affected by many factors. It is important that students not only should be provided by educational facilitates but also entertainment, cultural, sport and other related facilities are important so that they can drain the added amount of excess energy of education and study through these facilities. This, in addition to removing excess energy and fatigue of students, on the other hand, will stimulate the study and scientific activity of them.

Abstract:

Objectives: “Ageing” has created challenges for societies, particularly in developing countries. In this regard, the “Research Agenda on Ageing for the 21st century” (RAA-21) has been prepared and published through a joint project of the “United Nations Program on Ageing” and the “International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.” The University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences is the first university in Iran that has admitted students in Gerontology, and currently has the largest number of students studying the subject of “Ageing.” The current study aims to compare the topics of dissertations on ageing in the University with the priorities of RAA-21, because no similar study has been conducted at the University so far. Methods & Materials: total of 248 dissertations and proposals on “Ageing” were included in this study. The titles were categorized into three levels (priority, research area, and specific topic) with a deductive content analysis approach using RAA-21 guidelines. The results were qualitatively described and compared with RAA-21 priorities. Results: The fourth and fifth priorities of RAA-21 (“healthy ageing” as well as “biology and diseases”) were identified as the most common priorities in the dissertations of both the University and the Gerontology Department (39.9% and 21%, respectively). The second priority of RAA-21 (“material security”) had the least number of dissertations (3.3%). With respect to “research areas,” the highest number of dissertations was conducted in the “physical and mental function” (21.8%) and then “biomedical” and “healthy ageing” (19% each) subcategories. “Macro-societal changes and development” and “poverty” subcategories had the least number of dissertations (0.0% and 0.4%, respectively). Conclusion: distribution of dissertation topics conducted on “Ageing” at the University does not match with the priorities of RAA-21. As a descriptive study cannot present a certain causal relationship, an investigation into the reason for the differences is suggested for further studies. Moreover, it is also useful to prepare the national priorities for research on “Ageing,” using need assessment and RAA-21 as guidelines.
