NITRATE REMOVAL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION USING NANO ZERO VALENT IRON (NZVI) SUPPORTED ON ZSM5

Abstract

 NITRATE ION IS AMONG THE MOST IMPORTANT POLLUTANTS OF SURFACE AND UNDERGROUND WATER WHICH ENTERS INTO AQUATIC RESOURCES THROUGH DOMESTIC, INDUSTRIAL AND AGRICULTURAL WASTEWATER. ITS PRESENCE IN WATER SUPPLY REDUCES WATER QUALITY CAUSES CHEMICAL POLLUTION AND LIMIT THE CONSUMPTION DIFFERENT METHODS OF NITRATE REMOVALS ARE PRESENTED IN THE LITERATURE [1-4].THE AIM OF THIS RESEARCH WAS TO IDENTIFIED THE ABILITY OF NZVI -ZSM5 IN NITRATE REMOVAL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION. TO DO SO, THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PARAMETERS SUCH AS PH, CONTACT TIME, AMOUNTS OF NZVI -ZSM5, NITRATE CONCENTRATION AND ITS VOLUME WERE INVESTIGATED. THE OPTIMUM VALUES FOR THESE PARAMETERS WERE OBTAINED, PH 2.5, CONTACT TIME 40 MIN, 100ML OF 50 MG/L NO3 -, AND 0.55GR NZVI -ZSM5WITH THE NITRATE REMOVAL ABILITY OF ABOUT %97. DIFFERENT ISOTHERMS NAMELY, LONGMUIR, FREUNDICH, TEMPKIN, DUBININ-RADUSHKEVICH WERE EXAMINED. IT WAS CONCLUDED, THAT NITRATE ADSORPTION OBEY LANGMUIR ISOTHERM (R2=0.9386) AND ALSO THE KINETIC ADSORPTION WAS SECOND ORDER (R2=0.9998). THE METHOD WAS SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED TO THE REMOVAL OF NITRATE FROM DIFFERENT SURFACE WATER AND TAP WATER SAMPLES OBTAINING NITRATE REMOVAL RANGING FROM 94.78 TO 98.92 PERCENT.
