MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF THE RESISTANCE TIME DISTRIBUTION IN AN AIRLIFT BIOREACTOR FOR PETROLEUM BIODESULFURIZATION

Abstract

 THE RESISTANCE TIME DISTRIBUTION WAS MODELED IN AN INTERNAL AIRLIFT BIOREACTOR WITH A WORKING VOLUME OF AROUND 5 L. THE AXIAL DISPERSION COEFFICIENT WAS DETERMINED AT GAS AND LIQUID SUPERFICIAL VELOCITIES BETWEEN 0.015 TO 0.055 M/S AND 0.15 TO 0.55 M/S, RESPECTIVELY. EFFECT OF LIQUID AND GAS FLOW RATES ON LIQUID DISPERSION COEFFICIENT WAS INVESTIGATED. FURTHERMORE RESISTANCE TIME INCREASED WITH AN INCREASE IN AR/AD. IN MODELING, INTERNAL AIRLIFT BIOREACTOR WAS DIVIDED INTO SOME SECTIONS BY EMPLOYING A SET OF IDEAL BLOCKS FOR TUBULAR SECTIONS AND HEADSPACE. AXIAL DISPERSION MODEL WAS USED FOR TUBULAR SECTIONS OF THE INTERNAL AIRLIFT REACTOR, WHILE ONCE AN IDEAL CONTINUOUS STIRRED USED FOR SEPARATOR SECTION. FINALLY, BODENSTEIN NUMBER WAS ACHIEVED.
