Abstract

The purpose of this descriptive-correlational research was to assess the ATTITUDE of the faculties of public agricultural colleges and universities toward SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE and to determine factors influencing this ATTITUDE. The population was all the faculty members of the public agricultural colleges and universities (N= 1186). A sample of 206 members was selected by using stratified random sampling method. An instrument in the form of a questionnaire was developed by the researchers to gather the required data. According to factor analysis, five most highly ranked factors influencing the ATTITUDE of faculty members toward SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE were identified as: cooperation, independency, diversity, nature adaptation, and moderate utilization. Most of the respondents had positive ATTITUDE towards SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE. The variables such as "number of scientific publication", "duration of teaching experience" and "number of papers presented in international conferences" explained as much as 27 percent of variation in the overall level of respondents' ATTITUDE towards SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE. Faculties' positive ATTITUDE regarding SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE provides one of the important requirements for integrating SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE into curriculum of AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION programs.
