Abstract

Metastatic involvement of a single extraocular muscle may be a challenging problem and difficult diagnosis. In this study a 52 year old woman with 2.5 years' history of treated breast carcinoma presented with mild periorbital edema and restrictive exotropia in the right eye. Enlargement of right medial rectus was seen on CT and MRI orbit. Incisional biopsy and hormonal receptor study was done, and metastatic breast carcinoma was confirmed.
The ophthalmologist may have the primary role in diagnosis of a metastatic tumor and its primary source.
