Title

Reflection of the Wars of Malik-Shah the Sultan of the Seljuk Empire in Amir Moezzi's Odes

Pages

  80-95

Abstract

As one of the most powerful kings of the Seljuk Empire, Malik-Shah had many victorious wars over his twenty-year reign. These wars and victories are among the topics that were noticed by Amir Moezzi, the poet of Malik-Shah's court. Through a descriptive-analytical approach, this study examines the reflection of Malik-Shah's wars in Amir Moezzi's Odes and answers the following questions: 1. How are Malik-Shah's wars reflected in Moezzi's Odes? 2. Which details does Moezzi discuss when describing Malik Shah’s wars? The results show that Malik-Shah's wars are reflected in Moezzi's Odes in two ways: a) Praise Odes, in which Malik-Shah's wars and bravery are mentioned, and b) Odes composed to congratulate Malik-Shah's victory in wars. Some details of Malik-Shah's wars reflected in Moezzi's Odes are as follows: Malik-Shah's bravery and hostility, his successive victories and the expansion of the Seljuk Emperor's territory due to these victories. By addressing such details, Moezzi tries to describe the bravery of Malik-Shah and his troops in the war against enemies and opponents, his policy of prioritizing military power, and his strategies for confronting enemies.
