Abstract: 

Teaching professionalism is a lifelong process in which teachers are supposed to acquire capacities, upgrade their professional status, fulfill the highest standards, and achieve excellence. For evaluating the quality and quantity of such capacities and standards, certain benchmarking criteria have been developed in the realm of teacher education. In this line of inquiry, this paper proposes a model of teaching professionalism in which teachers are supposed to experience simultaneously developing strands in which they start as novice teachers, pass through some intermediate stages of semi-professionalism, and in a piecemeal fashion transform into expert teachers with the highest integrity and competence. For ease of understanding, the starting point and the final point as the extremes of each continuum are depicted as dichotomies to give a better picture of the developmental process of teacher professionalism. This conceptual model of professionalism can equip prospective teachers with an analytical framework to broaden their horizons and direct their attention and efforts towards developing core competencies by moving away from one side of each continuum and approaching the other side.

Abstract: 

Background: Now a days, the internet has created the opportunity to communicate and share information easily, and quickly among millions of people around the world. It also facilitates the same situation for medical students and physicians. They can participate in social networking and other internet opportunities. These professions should consider patient privacy and confidentiality, honesty, appropriate boundaries of the patient and physician relationship, separating personal and professional content online, public and private personae, attention to advertising by corporation and pharmaceutical companies, and trust in the field of medical professionalism. professionalism breaks in virtual environment can have consequences not only for individuals but also for public trust especially in the field of pediatrics according to the vulnerability of children. Modeling and teaching this new aspect of professionalism or e-professionalism in digital era is very important.Conclusion: Careful attention is needed to define the implications of virtual communication and use of social media on the traditional role of pediatricians as e-professionalism.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Medical professionalism is one of the nowadays most important debating subjects in medical ethics. It means the preferred behaviours that physicians must have against the patients and the community to bring proper interactions. The problems contributing to the patient-physician relationship is the cause of lots of complaints. Despite so many research in this field, there is a large gap between knowledge and practice and non-professional behaviours are persistent. The aim of this article is to review the related literature and presenting a practical guide for the improvement of medical professionalism. Materials & Methods: The subject was searched in the databases such as ERIC, PubMed and Google scholar by using these keywords: professionalism, medical education, medical ethics. Thirty-eight articles were reviewed. Results: A good doctor not only needs knowledge and technical skills but also proper relationship skills and professional behaviours. To gain this target these options must be mentioned: Designing professional curriculum, determining the general and partial goals, choosing teaching method, proper evaluation, and especially focusing on the dynamicity of this curriculum by using the feedbacks. Conclusion: To reach the medical professionalism goals and correct breeding of physicians, it is essential that medical professionalism-based curriculum be done in all of the medical schools and repeatedly be assessed and edited.

Abstract: 

Introduction: professionalism is the basis of trust for the doctor-patient relationship. professionalism training is an integral part of the training program of clinical assistants. This study endeavors to measure the three dimensions of professionalism including respect, honor, and excellence among the assistants of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This cross-sectional (descriptive-analytical) study was conducted using the available sampling method in the academic years 2019-2020 in the clinical departments of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. In this study, 108 students of specialized medical fields were studied. The instrument was the valid ABIM questionnaire. Average score ± standard deviation and percentage of variables were evaluated. Results: The participants’ scores were 5.95±1.54 in excellence, 7.68±1.75 in honor, and 6.96±1.67, which are above average. The average score of the questionnaire in the studied subjects was 6.88 ± 1.40 out of 10. Conclusion: According to the level of scores obtained in the category of professionalism, it seems that there is a need for more appropriate academic planning to improve it among specialized assistants. This issue is especially necessary in the field of excellence.

Abstract: 

Medicine is a profession. Professions are groups that declare in a public way which their members promise to in a certain ways and have higher goals. The profession presents itself to the community as a social benefit. It usually issues codes of ethics stating the standards by which its members can be judged. In this study our goal is investigations of ethical codes of medical professionalism or characters of physicians in views of Islamic teaching. A library study of Quran verses, hadith and Islamic articles about medical professionalism or characters of physicians has been undertaken. The most important medical ethics codes in Islamic texts was found by Hazrat Ali (AS) and Imam Sadegh (AS) statements which are: 1- piety, 2- seriousness and effort, 3- compassion and benevolence, 4- knowledge, 5- trusts. Islamic teachings introduce an important ethical code that is the most important code which is available. It is the same ethical code of prophets, Imams and believers. It has all other values and ethical codes within itself. Piety code that is headed of ethical codes and caused the popularity of God, accompanied God, having knowledge and wisdom and distinction, things become easy, abundant daily bread and to be saved.
