Abstract: 

BACKGROUND: AN IMPORTANT CLASS OF LIGAND HAVE BEEN WIDELY STUDIED IN COORDINATION CHEMISTRY IS SCHIFF BASE COMPOUNDS. INTERACTION BETWEEN LIGAND AND CENTRAL METAL ION IS VERY IMPORTANT IN CHEMISTRY COORDINATION. THESE INTERACTION CAN BE OBSERVED IN THE THERMODYNAMIC AND KINETIC ASPECT OF THE CHEMICAL REACTIVITY [1-3]. TO DEVELOP SURFACE-MODIFIED ELECTRODES AS SENSORS HAVE BEEN USED SCHIFF BASE COMPLEXES AS CATALYTICALLY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS [4, 5].METHODS: THE SCHIFF BASE LIGAND, H2NAPHOPHEN, WAS PREPARED BY CONDENSATION BETWEEN 1, 2-PHENYLENEDIAMINE AND 2-HYDROXYBENZALDEHYDE (1: 2 MOLE RATIO) IN METHANOL. AN APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF COBALT (II) ACETATETETRAHYDRATE (1.0 MMOL) AND AMINE (2.0 MMOL) WERE ADDED TO THE H2NAPHOPHEN (1.0 MMOL) AND WAS REFLUXED FOR 1H. THE FORMED CO (II) COMPLEX WAS OXIDIZED BY BLOWING AIR INTO THE SOLUTION FOR 2 H, THEN IT WAS FILTERED. TO THE FILTRATE, AN APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF POTASSIUM THIOSYANATE (1.0 MMOL) WAS ADDED TO THE SOLUTION AND THE RESULTING CRYSTALS WERE FORMED AFTER 4 DAYS.

Abstract: 

BACKGROUND: SEMICONDUCTOR NANOCRYSTALS (NCS) HAVE QUANTIZED EXCITONIC STATES DUE TO QUANTUM CONFINEMENT OF ELECTRONS AND HOLES IN ZERO-DIMENSION NANOSTRUCTURES [1]. ZNSE IS A WIDE DIRECT BAND GAP WHICH IS SUITABLE FOR QD-LEDS, SOLAR CELLS, UV-BLUE EMITTING LASER DIODES AND BIOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS [2]. USING TRANSITION METALS IONS AS IMPURITY, YIELDS HIGH-QUALITY NCS PROVIDE A WIDER RANGE OF VISIBLE EMITTING LIGHT FROM 390 TO 610 NM [3]. MICROWAVE METHOD IS ONE OF NOVEL AND INTERESTING METHODS FOR SYNTHESIS OF NCS WHICH IS A RAPIDLY DEVELOPING AREA OF RESEARCH. IN THIS WORK WE HAVE SYNTHESIZED ZNSE: CU NCS USING A MICROWAVE IRRADIATION METHOD AND INVESTIGATED THE EFFECT OF CU DOPING ON THE OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF ZNSE NCS.METHODS: THE AQUEOUS GROWTH OF ZNSE: CU NCS RESULTS FROM A REACTION BETWEEN ZN+2 AND NAHSE- IN PRESENCE OF THIO-LIGANDS. PROPER AMOUNTS OF SELENIUM POWDER AND NABH4 WERE DISSOLVED IN 1.5 CC DI WATER IN A THREE-NECKED FLASK BY VIGOROUS STIRRING UNDER NITROGEN GAS FLOW. ZINC ACETATE WAS DISSOLVED IN 75 CC DI WATER TO PREPARE ZN IONS SOURCE AND CUPPER ACETATE WAS ADDED SIMPLY TO THE SOLUTION AS THE MOLAR RATIO OF CUPPER ACETATE TO ZINC ACETATE WAS 0.1%, 0.5% AND 1%.0.1 CC TGA WAS ADDED TO THIS SOLUTION AND THE PH VALUE WAS ADJUSTED AT 10 BY ADDING NAOH SOLUTION AND THEN NAHSE- PREPARED SOLUTION WAS SLOWLY INJECTED TO ZN+2 SOLUTION UNDER ARGON GAS FLOW. FINALLY, PREPARED SOLUTION WAS PUT AT THE CENTER OF A MICROWAVE SYSTEM AND WAS HEATED AT 720 W FOR 10 MIN.RESULTS: XRD ANALYSIS DEMONSTRATED CUBIC ZINC BLENDE NCS WITH AN AVERAGE SIZE OF ABOUT 2.5 NM. BAND GAP OF THE NCS WAS OBTAINED ABOUT 3.15 EV. FOR ZNSE NCS, PL SPECTRA INDICATES A BROAD EMISSION WITH TWO PEAKS LOCATED ABOUT 415 AND 500 NM RELATED TO BAND EDGE AND TRAP STATE RESPECTIVELY. FOR ZNSE: CU NCS, PL INTENSITY OF BAND GAP EMISSION AT 415 NM DECREASED GRADUALLY WITH THE INCREASE IN THE CONCENTRATION OF CU DOPANT IONS AND FOR PRECURSOR RATIO OF CU: ZN=1% BAND GAP EMISSION AT 415 NM DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY.CONCLUSION: IN THIS WORK ZNSE: CU NCS WERE SYNTHESIZED USING MICROWAVE IRRADIATION METHOD. XRD PATTERN DEMONSTRATED CUBIC STRUCTURE (ZINC BLENDE) OF ZNSE NCS WITH AN AVERAGE SIZE AROUND 2.5 NM. OBTAINED RESULTS CONFIRMED SUCCESSFULLY INCORPORATION OF CU+2 IN ZNSE STRUCTURE. DOPING OF CU IN ZNSE STRUCTURE CHANGED THE LUMINESCENCE PROPERTIES OF ZNSE CONSIDERABLY.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Diabetic polyneuropathy is one of the most common and important complications of diabetes mellitus for its clinical ranking. Several clinical categorising scoring systems have been designated. Among them only Toronto Clinical Scoring System (TCSS) had been partially evaluated on the basis of pathologic findings in sural nerve biopsy. Only the mild cases had been studied since the myelin of sural nerve is destroyed in more severe cases of neuropathy and they are not appropriate for pathologic studies. This study was designed to evaluate TCSS on the basis of electro diagnostic findings in the mild to severe diabetic polyneuropathy in Kermanshah. Materials and Methods: 61 patients with diabetic polyneuropathy who have been referred to Clinic of Diabetes, were recruited and screened by using TCSS. In the next phase, nerve conduction studies measuring the amplitude and velocity of the sural, proneal, tibial, radial and ulnar nerves on both sides were examined in a single blind study. Nerve conduction abnormity index (NCAI) was calculated for each patient on the basis of the number of abnormalities in amplitude and velocity in these nerves. Correlation between TCSS and NCAI scorings were analysed using Spearman and Pearson co- efficient and the Kappa coefficient test. Results: 49 (80%) subjects were female and 12 (20%) male. The mean age for the female and male were 55±12 and 54±13 years respectively. 6 patients were IDDM and 55 patients were NIDDM. A significant correlation was found between TCSS and NCAI and (r=0.733, p<0.001) and (k=0.708, p<0.001). Discussion: A nearly direct correlation was found between the number of abnormalities in conduction studies and TCSS in diabetic polyneuropathy. In a previous study the correlation between TCSS and pathologic finding was shown in the mild diabetic polyneuropathy. We can recommend that TCSS is a valid scoring system for grading of diabetic polyneuropathy in clinical examinations. In addition, it is an easy method and suitable for clinical approaches.

Abstract: 

Aims: This study aimed to examine the psychometric features (validity and reliability) of the short form of Need for Cognition Scale (NFS) in high school students.Method: For this purpose, 392 students (168 male and 224 female) of Shiraz high schools were selected by multistage cluster sampling method. They responded to the self-report need for cognition scale developed by Cacciopo et al. To assess the construct validity of this scale, confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency were used. Moreover, Cronbach' s alpha coefficient was used to evaluate the reliability of the scale.Results: Generally, the goodness of fit characteristics of the confirmatory factor analysis model indicated a good fit of the data with factor structure of the need for cognition scale. Also, internal consistency method indicated the construct validity of the scale and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient indicated the stability of the measurement of the scale.Conclusion: Based on these results, one can use the need for cognition scale developed by Cacciopo et al. as an acceptable measurement tool to study high school students.

IN THIS WORK, THE OPTICALLY ACTIVE POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) (PAI) WAS SYNTHESIZED FROM THE POLYMERIZATION REACTION OF N-TRIMELLITYLIMIDO-L-METHIONINE WITH 4, 4′-DIAMINO DIPHENYLETHER USING MOLTEN TETRA-N-BUTYLAMMONIUM BROMIDE AND TRIPHENYLPHOSPHITE [3]. THE SURFACE OF SIO2 NPS WAS MODIFIED USING POLY (VINYL ALCOHOL) (PVA), AND THEN VARIOUS RATIOS OF THE MODIFIED NPS WAS LOADED INTO THE PAI MATRIX. THE OBTAINED PAI-SIO2/PVA NCS (PSPN) S WERE CHARACTERIZED BY VARIOUS TECHNIQUES SUCH AS TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPY AND FIELD EMISSION SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (FIG 1). ALL OF ANALYSIS SHOWED THE UNIFORM DISPERSION OF NPS IN PAI MATRIX.

Abstract: 

IN FIELD OF NANOTECHNOLOGY, POLYMER BASED NANOCOMPOSITES (NCS) CONTAINING INORGANIC NANOPARTICLES (NPS) HAVE BECOME A NOTICEABLE AREA OF RECENT RESEARCHES. THEY DEMONSTRATE SINGULAR PROPERTIES THAT DON’T FIND IN TRADITIONAL COMPOSITES [1]. IN THIS WORK, POLY (VINYL ALCOHOL) (PVA) WAS USED AS A BIOCOMPATIBLE "MODIFIER" TO PREVENT THE ALUMINA (A-AL2O3) NPS AGGLOMERATION AND CREATE EFFECTIVE INTERACTION WITH THE POLYMER MATRIX. IN ADDITION, OPTICALLY ACTIVE POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) (PAI) WAS SYNTHESIZED IN IONIC LIQUID AS GREEN SOLVENT [2]. THE MODIFIED NPS (A-AL2O3-PVA NPS) WERE INCORPORATED INTO THE PAI THROUGH ULTRASONIC PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF PAI/AL2O3-PVA NCS. AT THE END, THE OBTAINED PAI/AL2O3-PVA NCS WERE CHARACTERIZED BY DIFFERENT METHODS. ACCORDING TO THE TEM IMAGE, A-AL2O3-PVA NPS WERE HOMOGENEOUSLY DISPERSED IN THE POLYMER MATRIX. SO, THE DIFFRACTION PEAKS OF A-AL2O3-PVA NPS WERE OBSERVED IN PAI/AL2O3-PVA NCS. (FIGURE 1)

Abstract: 

Introduction: The Martin-Gruber Anastomosis (MGA) is probably the most well known of anomalies that occur at various levels between the median and ulnar nerves. It is formed by motor axons from the median nerve that join the ulnar nerve, and innervate the muscles that normally are ulnar-innervated. The purpose of this study was to establish the relative frequency of MGA and its subtypes in healthy subjects and to draw the attention of clinicians working in the neurophysiological laboratory to the presence of this anstomosis, and thus to avoid possible misinterpretations of data from nerve conduction studies (NCS) and needle electromyography (EMG).Materials and methods: In this study that performed in a descriptive method, 130 persons (60 men and 70 women) were selected and we did NCS on their both hands. Surface recording electrodes were placed on the thenar, hypothenar and first dorsal interosseous (FDI) muscles. Both median and ulnar nerves were stimulated supramaximally at the wrist (distal) and the elbow (proximal) ,and compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs) were recorded and their amplitudes evaluated. Chi-square test was used for data analysis.Results: MGA was found in 34 persons (26.15%) and in 47 hands (18.07%). The most frequent type of anastomosis was type II (61.7%). Type I, III and IV anastomosis were observed in 2, 3 and 13 (27.66%) hands respectively.Conclusions: It can thus be concluded that MGA is frequently encountered and it should be borne in mind that anomalous innervation models may influence the electrophysiological findings and thus give rise to faulty interpretations, especially in the case of median and ulnar nerve lesions.
