Myiasis is an infestation of tissues with larval stage of dipterous flies. This condition most often affects the skin and may also occur in certain body cavities. It is mainly seen in the tropics, though it may also be rarely encountered in non-tropical regions. Herein, we present a case of cutaneous furuncular myiasis in an Iranian male who had travelled to Africa and his condition was finally diagnosed with observation of spiracles of larvae in the lesions.

Purpose: To present a case of massive orbital myiasis.Case Report: An 87-year-old debilitated woman suffering from left ocular pain of four days’ duration presented with a severely necrotized left orbit and several attached live larvae. The upper and lower eyelids and the eyeball were completely destroyed.She had history of eyelid surgery in the same eye due to a skin lesion, apparently some type of skin cancer, 15 years before. The larvae were identified as Chrysomya bezziana (Diptera: Calliphoridae) or old world screwworm fly.Conclusion: Infestation of ocular and orbital tissues by fly larvae (ophthalmomyiasis) progresses rapidly and can completely destroy orbital tissues within days, especially in patients with poor general health. Treatment consists of removal of the larvae and surgical debridement.

PRESENTATION A 38‑ year‑ old farmer presented to the emergency with a 2‑ day history of foreign body sensation and discharge in his left eye after manure fell into his eye. His visual acuity was 20/20. On examination, lids were edematous, conjunctiva congested, and cornea was clear. A maggot was seen on the upper palpebral conjunctiva [Figure 1a], which was removed with a forceps after instillation of topical anesthetic. Entomological assessment found it to be a larva of early stage of the house fl y of the order Diptera and genus Musca. It had two distinct black suckers on the head, no distinct limbs and a tapering body [Figure 1b]. He was given topical moxifl oxacin and lubricants 4 times/day for a week after which his symptoms were relieved...

Myiasis is caused by invasion of larvae stage of dipterans fly in living tissue of vertebrate host including human and animals. The most important family is Calliphoridae and included Calliphora, Lucilia, Chrysomyia and Cochliomyia ge-nus. A 35-yr-old man with gastric cancer history referred to Golestan Hospital in Ahvaz Southwest of Iran in 2015. He was infected by nasal myiasis from Lucilia spp. in ICU. The genus of third larvae stage was identified by microscopic examination and culture of pupa. The population of flies inducing myiasis should be controlled in hospitals.

A 28-year-old male farmer presented with a chief complaint of itching and extreme discomfort on the entire maxillary and mandibular gingivae. He was diagnosed with gingival myiasis and scaling was performed on both jaws. However because of the multiple larvae, complete removal with simple curettage and scaling was not feasible, therefore flap surgery was performed on the maxilla. One week later the sutures were removed and healing was uneventful. The patient failed to return for the treatment of his mandibular lesions probably because the administered antibiotics had reduced his discomfort.

Introduction: Foot ulcers which can result in physical and psychological casualties are commonly observed in diabetes mellitus. On time diagnosis and appropriate management can prevent undesirable events. We report a patient with diabetic ulcer and myiasis.Case Report: A 70 year old man came to our wound clinic with bilateral plantar ulcers. Many larvae were seen in gangrenous tissue of the ulcer.Conclusion: Prompt care and considering all factors effective in wound progression leads to prevention of disabilities in diabetic patients.

Myiasis is a parasitic infestation of fly larvae caused by dipterous larvae that live in the host’s dead or living tissues. This study reported the first case of urogenital myiasis in infants from Iran caused by Lucilia sericata. The 10-month-old boy was taken to the hospital by his mother due to restlessness and abdominal pain. During the examination, motile and live larvae were observed in the penis area. The patient had no history of infectious disease or immune system deficiency, and his blood tests were normal. The entomological analysis found that the source of this myiasis was Lucilia sericata fly larvae. The report of such cases highlighted the importance of physical examination and the awareness of physicians in dealing with myiasis, as well as the necessity of educating mothers on the hygiene of the living environment and child care in rural areas.

Lucilia sericata is one of the facultative parasites which causes myiasis in animals, and rarely in humans as an ectoparasite. Infestation in humans and domestic herbivorous animals occurs in wounds, mouth, eyes, and nose. It causes itching, pain, inflammation, secondary bacterial infections, eosinophilia, and erythema. We report on a 26-year-old man from Kashan, with a 12year history of opium and a 3-year history of heroin injections was taken to Iran, following a heroine injection, and with signs of hypoxic encephalopathy, decreasing mental clearness, and coma. He was FIBsA% and HIV negative, and HCV positive. From the wounds of his left hand, which were caused by repeated injections, 38 live larvae were removed. The larvae proved to be Lucilia sericata.
