The purpose of this study is to determine the attitude of midwifery in order to benefit more from midwifery textbooks in midwifery education. Therefore, the aim of this study is to design and assess the reliability and validity of midwifery attitude questionnaire towards midwifery lessons. Materials & Methods: This is an analytical study. To determine the content validity, the Lavasian table method was used. Acceptance of phrases based on the score of at least 0. 62 for content validity ratio and 0. 79 for content validity index. For reliability, the questionnaire was completed by 30 midwifery teachers and then reliability was calculated using Cronbach's alpha and acceptance criteria was 0. 75. The calculations were performed using SPSS software version 17. Results: According to interviews, 17 terms were determined. The three words were deleted because the content validity ratio was less than 0. 62. The average value of the content validity ratio for the remaining terms was 0. 83. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0. 89. Conclusion: The midwives' attitude about midwifery textbooks is a lasting instrument and can measure the attitudes of various midwifery groups such as instructors, students and midwifery graduates to midwifery lessons.

Abstract:

Introduction: As the literature indicates community-oriented midwifery can play an important role in woman health improvement. This study aimed at investigating midwives’ and midwifery students' awareness about and attitude toward community oriented midwifery in Shahroud University of Medical Sciences in 2009.Methods: In this cross sectional study, a self –made questionnaire including 20 items on awareness about and 25 items on attitude toward community oriented midwifery was used for data collection. The questionnaires were distributed among 102 midwifery students and midwives and 90 questionnaires were answered back. Awareness scores were categorized into three groups: low (less than 75), moderate (75-95) and high (more than 95) awareness scores, and attitude scores were categorized into three groups of negative (25-55), no idea (56-85) and positive (more than 85). The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were evaluated using expert opinion and test- retest respectively. Results: Mean of attitude score was 95.8±10.4 and mean of awareness score was 89.8±12.1. There were no significant differences between midwives and midwifery students in their awareness and attitude (P>0.05). Awareness scores of midwifery student with continuous education were significantly higher than students that their education was non-continuous (P<0.05).Conclusion: Positive attitude towards community oriented among participants indicates the appropriacy of the background for any intervention to apply a community-oriented midwifery program. The moderate level of awareness scores in the sample population and their opinions about current educational programs imply the necessity of further specific education on community oriented midwifery.

Abstract:

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted educational systems, leading to the rapid adoption of distance education. This shift affected midwifery departments in Turkey, raising items about its appropriateness for such a practical discipline. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the attitudes of educators in Turkish university midwifery departments toward distance education during the pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 87 academic midwives in midwifery departments of universities in Turkey from June to December 2020. Data was collected online using a structured survey by a researcher. A survey was developed by trainers based on literature to understand the attitudes and opinions of the trainers towards distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: The mean (SD) age of participants was 36.13 (12.92) years and 12.64 (8.83) years of university teaching experience. A majority strongly disagreed that distance education suits midwifery curricula (36.8%), and 77% strongly disagreed with using distance education for practical courses. However, 27.6% were undecided on its suitability for theoretical classes. Conclusion: Most midwifery educators believe that distance education is not entirely suitable for teaching the midwifery curriculum. To increase the effectiveness of distance education, a hybrid education model should be adopted; theoretical courses should be conducted remotely, and practical courses should be conducted face-to-face. Digital simulations and virtual laboratories should be expanded to support practical training. Academicians should be trained on interactive methods to increase student participation, the infrastructure of universities' distance education systems should be strengthened, and access problems should be resolved.
