Abstract:

Persian Gulf is known as an environmental resource of unique species. In the present survey, the floristic composition of marine algae of Hengam Island in Hormozgan province was investigated. Sampling was performed at four stations of the tidal zone from March 2012 to April 2014. 45 marine algae species were identified in Hengam Island including23, 11 and 11 species belong to Rhodophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Phaeophyceae, respectively. The most important genus regarding to the number of species were Caulerpa˛ Ulva˛ Hypnea˛ Gracilaria and Laurencia. Our results also showed that the highest growth of green algae was in late winter and early spring. Red algae showed the highest growth in late autumn and brown algae were distributed in the whole of year.

Abstract:

This study dealt with identification and investigation of the members of Zoantharia order in tidal zones of Hengam Islands in winter 2009. To fulfill this study, five transects in five stations, Arabha, Khenezi, Abas, Ghil, and Eskele around the island were considered. Sampling was done in the beginning of ebb. Each transect investigated by netted quadrate 1×1m and squares 10×10 cm completely. Samples were identified according to valid references and numbers of colonies of above said stations were compared. According to the findings, 4 species of 2 families of Zoantharia order were identified in tidal zone. From percentage of species frequencies and covering point of view, results of ANOVA of stations showed significant differences (P<0.05).

Abstract:

This study touches on identification of species of Echinoidea (Echinodermata) in the Intertidal zones of Chabahar Bay in the Oman Sea during November 2008 to September 2009. The area of study was at the farthest end of south east of Iran from 25° 16´ 61² N to 25° 22¢ 47² N and from 60° 39¢ 90² E to 60° 24¢ 38² E. Sampling was done bimonthly during low tide from 5 stations, using 1m×1m quadrate randomly. Then, samples were counted, identified. The results showed that 4 species of Echinodermata from class of Echinodea and 4 orders Clypeasteroidea, Diadematoida, Echinoidea, Phymosomatoida and 4 families as Clypeasteridae, Diadematidae, Echinometridae, Stomopneustiae including: Clypeaster humili, Diadema setosum, Echinometra mathaei, Stomopneustes variolaris.

Sampling was done randomly with 0.5 m2 quadrate. Totally 9 genera of green, red and brown macro algae were recognized. Maximum and minimum biomass of algae belonged to brown and green algae with 2166/7and 687g/m2, respectively. The green algae Codium, sp., Chaetomorpha, sp., Chatomotpha gracilis and the red algae Hypnea sp., Gracillaria, sp., Laurencia,sp., Gracillara corticata, Laurencia papillosa and Laurencia obtuse, also 6 brown algae including Sargassum sp., Padina sp., Colpomenia sp., Cystoseria sp., Colpomenia sinuosa and Cystoseria fimbriata, were recognized.

Abstract:

The present study provides the first large scale survey on Intertidal ichthyofauna along the coastline of Iran from Gawater Bay (Border of Pakistan) in the Gulf of Oman to ArvandKenar (Border of Iraq) in the Persian Gulf. This study was carried out in the years 2005-2006 at 15 stations, including mangrove, mudflat and rocky shores. Specimens were collected at low tide from tide pools, using chlorine and hand net. Although 36 species from 15 families were collected only 17 species including Alticus kirkii, Antennablennius bifilum, A. variopunctatus, Istiblennius edentulous, I. pox, I. spilotus, Parablennius opercularis, Omobranchus fasciolatus, O. mekranensis, O. punctatus, (belong to family Blenniidae) and Boleophthalmus dussumieri, Periophthalmus waltoni, Scartelaos tenuis, Acentrogobius dayi, Bathygobius meggitti, Cryptocentroides arabicus and Istigobius ornatus (belong to family Gobiidae) were regarded as permanent residents.

Abstract:

With more than 1875 species known and new species being described each year, the Gobiidae is one of the largest families of bony fishes. In the Persian Gulf, these fishes, particularly those living in the Intertidal zones, are little known. A study was carried out to investigate and identify the ichthyofauna of the harsh and stressful Intertidal area of Qeshm Island, at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, at Hormoz Strait. During the study, amongst other fish species which will be dealt in another article, eight species belonging to the Gobiidae were identified and are hereby, reported for the first time from Qeshm Island. The species are: Acentrogobius dayi, Bathygobius meggitti, Coryogalops adamsoni, Cryptocentroides arabicus, Istigobius ornatus, Boleophthalmus dussumieri, Periophthalmus waltoni and Scartelaos tenuis. During examination of fishes, it was concluded that some of the species being reported from the area before, might have been misidentified.

Abstract:

A large amount of material in the form of industrial effluents and urban sewage containing metal contaminants directly enters Dudh creek. Metals on entering the creek tend to settle at the bottom and become part of the sediments. The distribution of metals with depth reflects changes in their supply as well as diagenetic modifications with time. In the present study, an attempt has been made to understand the impact of waste discharged from Tarapur Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation on Dudh creek. Two cores were collected, one close to the creek mouth and the other in the inner part of the creek. Sediment component, organic carbon and metal (vanadium, copper, nickel, lead, zinc, manganese, iron and aluminium) analyses were carried out on the two cores. The variation in the distribution of sediment components with depth reflects changes in hydrodynamic condition of the creek over the years. Increase in concentration of most of the metals in the upper part of the cores indicates additional input in recent years. The core collected in the inner part of the creek showed higher metal and organic carbon concentration as compared to the downstream core. This was very well supported by distribution of points on an isocon plot. Enrichment factor and index of geoaccumulation were used to find the extent of pollution in sediments of the creek. Correlation and R-mode factor analysis have also been computed to understand the association and source of metal input in sediments of Dudh creek.

Abstract:

Introduction: the biomass of macro- algas was studied in summer and winter at 4 elected stations during spring tide in high in 2011, mid and low Intertidal zone in Boushehr Port in Persian Gulf. The aim of this study is to identify and determine biomass of macro-algas in the Intertidal zone of the port of Bushehr.Method: Quadrat sampling 0.5´0.5 m2 was random. Totally 12 species of macro-algas identified and the average biomass were arranged in summer; Phaeophyceae (258.6625 g/m2) the highest biomass and Chlorophyceae the lowest biomass and in winter had Chlorophyceae (564.875 g/m2) the highest biomass and Rhodophyceae (191.8 g/m2) the lowest biomass.Result: The result that was obtained by one way ANOVA, determined that the most abundance of macro-alga was in sub littoral zone. Compute test (Mann- Whitney) didn’t show the importance of biomass between mid-littoral and sub littoral zones in two seasons. The results show 6 common species that in summer and winter were observed species of Rhodophyceae: muscoides Acanthophora– Laurensia papillosa- Gracilaria corticata and 2 species Phaeophyceae: Cystoseira sp. and Padina sp. and one species of Chlorophyceae: Caulerpa sp.In addition the average of biomass computing in mid and low Intertidal zones in studying within two seasons identified in both seasons that the highest average of biomass (953.1 g/m2) belongs to padina sp in third station in summer and lowest average of biomass (0.5 g/m2) belongs to champia parvula in second station in winter.
