Abstract:

The COMPOUND verb is a very controversial issue in Persian grammar. Grammarians have extensively discussed this topic and have presented different, and sometimes contradictory, opinions. Most of them have been confused in recognizing a COMPOUND verb. Many examples considered to be COMPOUND verbs are not in fact COMPOUND verbs. For example, سوگند (oath) in سوگند خوردن (to take an oath) is an object, as in باز هم همان سوگند را خورد. ترش (sour) in ترش شدن (to become sour) is a subjective complement.

Abstract:

There are two types of verb in the Persian language: simple verbs and COMPOUND verbs. The number of COMPOUND ones is much greater than the simple ones, being from typological point of view of significance. COMPOUND verbs usually consist of a noun/adverb (e.g. eqdâm kardan 'to take measures', pas gereftan 'to take back/to recapture'). In Persian a verb phrase may have the same structure, as it is seen in the phrases such as qazâ xordan 'to have food' and zud raftan 'to go early'.COMPOUND verbs are to be entered in dictionaries, however, verb phrases are not regarded as Lexical entries, because they are formed according to general syntactic rules. In this article, the author endeavours to provide criteria to make distinction between these two categories.

Abstract:

The Persian COMPOUND adjectives are divided into two groups: endocentric and exocentric, a great majority of which belong to the former. In the endocentric ones, there is an adjective functioning as the syntactic and semantic head. Depending on whether the head is the first or the second constituent, we call the COMPOUND left-hand headed or right-hand headed. In Persian, there is a very active morphological process by which COMPOUND adjectives are generated, called by traditional grammarians "sefat-e fā'eli-ye morakkab-e moralkkamam"(truncated COMPOUND present participle). In these COMPOUNDs the second constituent functions as the head. This article aims at providing a survey of different kinds of these COMPOUNDs considering the syntactic and semantic relations between their constituents.

Abstract:

COMPOUNDs have long been closely studied by many linguists. One reason for this especially in Persian language is probably the high productivity rate of this process. Since these kinds of words are both composed by the lay people in their daily speech and at the same time by the experts, the Persian language can benefit from this possibility and fulfill its needs with regard to finding appropriate equivalents for foreign words and scientific expressions. This study is an attempt to provide a description of COMPOUNDs and delve into its intrinsic nature to demonstrate its place in morphological hierarchy. To this end, the researchers of the study have resorted to different theoretical approaches. Finally, after introducing a number of different ways of classifying the COMPOUNDs, the most comprehensive one is proposed based on consistent criteria which is hoped to be universally valid too.

INTRODUCTION: MANY EVIDENCE SUGGEST THAT OXIDATIVE STRESS, WHICH IS CAUSED BY REACTIVE OXYGEN SPECIES, CONTRIBUTES TO SEVERAL ASPECTS OF ENDOMETRIOSIS. THEREFORE, IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT NATURAL COMPOUND (GREEN TEA, CURCUMIN, RESVERATROL) WHICH POSSESS CONSIDERABLE ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES, HAVE BEEN STUDIED IN THE CONTEXT OF ENDOMETRIOSIS. THE AIM OF OUR STUDY WAS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTS OF THESE NATURAL COMPOUND ON ENDOMETRIOSIS TREATMENT….

Abstract:

The problem of COMPOUND verb and determining clear criteria for distinguishing this form of verb from verb phrase and simple verb has been a subject of hard debates among grammarians, especially over the last few years. While providing answers to some of the existing open questions about COMPOUND verbs, this paper focuses on analysis of the structure of this grammatical category from two aspects, semantic and morphological, and establishes a framework that offers a clear pattern for the analysis of this linguistic phenomenon based on the presented information. It is our belief that COMPOUND verb, like all COMPOUND words, is one of the linguistic phenomena playing a role in extension of semantic field in Persian language.

Abstract:

There are certain verb phrases in current Persian that need to make use of enclitic pronouns instead of demonstratives. These verbs, often used to express emotions, are variously referred to "intransitive verbs" and "Impersonal verbs". Some examples of these verbs are yأd¢am raft, saxtat bud, xande"as gereft " mأ¢temأ¢n bard, garmetأ¢n sod, badesأ¢n "أ¢mad. These phrases are conjugated in most tenses, imperative case being an exception; besides the enclitic pronoun is neither omitted nor substituted by another word. In the case where they begin with nouns or independent pronouns, these phrases concord, in number and person, with the enclitic pronoun. Examples:"أ¢nhأ£ xoses أ¢n " أ¢mad, to dirat sod. The purpose of this article is twofold: firstly, to identify the construction of these verbs in classical Persian texts, showing the various stages of their development; secondly, to describe their grammatical characteristics in modem Persian in comparison with the old Persian.

Abstract:

Background: Organophosphate COMPOUND (OPC) poisoning with suicidal intent is common in Indian ICUs. These COMPOUNDs are the organic derivatives of phosphorous containing acids and their effect on neuromuscular junction and autonomic synapses is clinically important. Organophosphate poisoning can present as acute cholinergic syndrome, intermediate syndrome and delayed neuropathy. Case Presentation: Intermediate syndrome secondary to organophosphate poisoning is a serious health problem leading to increased morbidity and mortality. The incidence of problem varies and ranges from 8%-84% of OPC poisoning cases. After initial recovery from cholinergic crisis, some patients have resurgence of respiratory muscle paralysis requiring continued ventilatory support. This is termed intermediate syndrome (IMS). The factors accounting for this difference is the nature of organophosphate COMPOUND, severity of poisoning and inadequate oxime therapy. The recognition of this syndrome is important as if this entity is overlooked it can have disastrous effects. Discussion: Our patient had developed respiratory muscle weakness as evidenced by inadequate respiratory efforts, drop in oxygen saturation, retention of CO2 and need for ventilatory support. There was no evidence of weakness in ocular, neck, bulbar muscles but he had weakness in all 4 limbs more pronounced in proximal muscles. Conclusion: We presented this case of OPC poisoning with intermediate syndrome, which remained for a prolonged time and required mechanical ventilation for 16 days. This case highlights how the timely intervention can save the patient’ s life.
