Abstract:

Background and Aim: Adhesion as an important physical factor in denture retention varies in different base materials. In this research the rate of adhesion is measured in the commonly used denture base materials. Methods & Materials: Twelve kind of different materials used in denture base were considered and 10 specimens of each of them were made. Then, the forces necessary to separate specimens from distilled water are measured by using special measuring devices for determining surface tensions. The results were compared with one way analysis of variance and paired t - test. Results: Red autopolymerized Meliodent Acrylic resin showed the maximum (987.5±29.3mg) and silicon Molloplast B showed the minimum rate of adhesion (885.5±44.7mg). Also, the rate of adhesion of heat cure Meliodent acrylic (965.3±17.6mg) was more than Acropars acrylic (945±35.4mg) and variation was statistically significant (P<0.05). Polishing the acrylic caused increase in the rate of adhesion which was statistically significant (P<0.0001).Conclusion: Physical retention due to the adhesion of acrylic resin is expected more than of silicone and to obtain the better retention, it is recommended to polish the impression surface of complete denture.

Abstract:

Introduction: Leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD) is a rare functional leukocyte disorder, which is divided into two separate types: LAD-1 and LAD-2. LAD-1 results from lack of b2 integrin molecules (CD11 & CD18) on the leukocyte cell surface. These molecules are essential for leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells and chemotaxis. The present case report is about a 42-month-old girl with recurrent otitis, pneumonia and gingivitis. On physical examination, patient was pale and malnourished. Multiple desquamated erythematous plagues were found on her body and extremities. Blood investigations revealed persistent leukocytosis with normal serum Immunoglobulin profile and complement. The diagnosis of LAD1 was made based on Flow cytometry finding; showing decreased in CD11 and CD18 markers of PMN a.Conclusion: When a patient has persistent leukocytosis and recurrent infections, investigation for the primary immune deficiency, specially leukocyte adhesion deficiency must be considered.

Abstract:

Objective: Leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD) disorders, LAD-1 and LAD-2 are rare disease of leukocyte function. LAD-1 results from a lock of leukocyte cell surface expression of β2 integrin molecules (CD11 & CD18) that are essential for leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells and chemo taxis. Case Presentationt: Our patient a 23-month-old male infant was brought with recurrent skin infections. On examination, the infant was pale with multiple scars in his body. Investigations revealed persisting leukocytosis, serum Immunoglobulin profile and complement were normal. Flow cytometry showed decreased in CD11 and CD18 marker of PMN a diagnosis of LAD1 was made. Conclusion: The accompaniment of persistent leukocytosis and recurrent skin infections will guide us to the primary immune deficiency specially leukocyte adhesion deficiency.

Abstract:

Flexographic printing is the most applicable technology in the packaging industry. But the lack of proper adhesion of water-based ink on cardboard coated with polyethylene is one of the most important problems. Silane adhesion promoters are considered among the best compounds used as the crosslinking and waterproofing agents in coating and ink industries. In this study, N-(2-Aminoethyl) (3-aminopropyl) methyldimethoxysilane and 2-(3, 4-Epoxycyclohexyl) ethyl trie thoxy silane were used to improve the adhesion of water-based ink on paper board-coated with polyethylene. Results showed that highest degree of adhesion was achieved by adding 5% of N-(2-Aminoethyl) (3-aminopropyl) methyldimethoxysilane to ink. Adding silane compounds to ink formulation increased the contact angle of the ink film on the surface of cardboard coated with polyethylene which means that inks containing silane compounds act more successful in the formation of hydrophobic surface. It is worth noting that surface tension was decreased by addition of silane components to the formulation of the ink.

Abstract:

DURING THEIR LIFE SPAN, CONCRETE STRUCTURES ARE EXPOSED TO INTERNAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL (EXTERNAL) DESTRUCTIVE FACTORS. IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE STRUCTURE AGAINST THESE FACTORS AND PROMOTING ITS LIFE, IT IS NECESSARY TO RESTORE AND REPAIR THE DAMAGES INFLICTED UPON IT. IN GENERAL, FACTORS SUCH AS QUALITY OF REPAIR MATERIAL, AS WELL AS THEIR ADHESION AND COMPATIBILITY WITH THE BASE CONCRETE AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF REPAIR MEASURES. IN THIS PAPER, THE RESULTS OF A LABORATORY STUDY IS PRESENTED, IN WHICH THE IMPACT OF FACTORS LIKE INITIAL TREATMENT, SURFACE PREPARATION METHODS AND OILY ENVIRONMENTS WERE STUDIED ON THE ADHESION OF REPAIR CONCRETE WITH A POLYMERIC BASE. IN THIS STUDY, A NUMBER OF BASE CONCRETE SAMPLES WERE PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE BS6319 STANDARD, AND WERE THEN REPAIRED USING A NUMBER OF POLYMERIC CONCRETES. AFTER THE TREATMENT STAGE, THE ADHESION OF REPAIR CONCRETE TO THE BASE CONCRETE WAS MEASURED BY THE SLANT SHEAR METHOD, AND COMPARED WITH OTHER METHODS. IN THIS STUDY, THE IMPACT OF USING MICROSILICA WAS ALSO CONSIDERED AND THE RESULTS WERE PRESENTED IN RELEVANT GRAPHS AND TABLES.

Abstract:

The construction sector is responsible for relevant environmental impacts and one of its most crucial points is the use of concrete. Geopolymers represent the most promising green and ecological alternative for common Portland cement and cementitious materials, due to its proven durability, mechanical and thermal properties. This work presents an experimental and comparative study of adhesion at the fiber-matrix interface between glass fibers and carbon fibers added to the geopolymer matrix. This analysis was performed by pull-out test, whereby it was found that the greatest efficiency was obtained by reinforcing with the glass fibers, incorporated at 2 mm in the geopolymer matrix. As results, the adhesion between the fibers and the geopolymer structure can be assessed, as well as the optimum length of application.
