Abstract

A feeding trial was conducted in order to evaluate the effects of dietary nucleotides at levels 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4% on blood biochemical and haematological parameters of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Experimental diets were fed to the juvenile fish (7.54±0.2 g) for a period of 8 weeks. The experiment was carried out in triplicates in 300l tanks each containing 20 fish and fed five times a day to satiation.Results of this study showed that the addition of dietary nucleotide led to significant increase in blood biochemical parameters including glucose, total protein, albumin and triglyceride contents (p<0.05), whereas no significant difference was observed in total cholesterol (p>0.05). Haematological parameters including Hb and HCT in fish fed dietary nucleotide were significantly higher. There were no significant differences in WBC and MCHC between the treatments (p>0.05). Also no significant difference was observed in fianl weight gain among the treatments. Our results indicated that dietary nucleotide could, to certain extent, affect physiological responses in common carp.
