Abstract:

Introduction: Vasectomy is a kind of the permanent contraception method, which is easy to use with few complications. But in recent years it is thought that there may be a relationship between Vasectomy and prostate cancer. In this study this relationship is discussed. Materials and Methods: In a case-control study, 150 samples were selected, 50 with previous history of Vasectomy in 5 years ago and 100 normal non-Vasectomy samples as control group. PSA was determined in all samples with ELIZA method. Parameters such as (age, BMI, smoking) in two groups was identical. Data was analyzed by Pearson correlation, T and Chi square tests. Results: PSA was higher in Vasectomy samples than non-Vasectomy ones (P=0.017). Also PSA was increased with aging. Conclusion: Results showed that both Vasectomy and aging increased PSA. But we need more study for finding Vasectomy as the risk factor for prostatic carcinoma.

Abstract:

Background: Irregular population growth is considered as a serious threat to the international community. It is also a major obstacle against nations' social and economic development. Thus, one of the ways to control the population is providing effective contraceptive methods. Vasectomy is one of the most effective, simple contraceptive methods confirmed by the World Health Organization. It is important to involve men in population control and reproductive health promotion. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the experiences of a group of vasectomized men. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using a phenomenological approach. Subjects were 14 vasectomized men selected through purposive sampling. In-depth and open interviews with participants were conducted to collect data. Observations were also recorded in comprehensive field notes. A Colaizzi method was used to analyze the data transcripts.Findings: Four themes were driven from the obtained results which describe the structures of Vasectomy- related experiences among men. These themes included opinions about Vasectomy, impressions about Vasectomy, Vasectomy experiences, and recommendation to others. Conclusion: Recognizing experiences of vasectomized men and determining positive and negative aspects of this method would make specialists able to design effective Vasectomy promotion training programs.

Abstract:

Background and aim: Patients may show different sexual function following Vasectomy. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of Vasectomy on the sexual function in men. Methods: This clinical trial study was performed, on a total of 100 patients out of 120 patients who were voluntarily candidate for Vasectomy surgery in Kashani hospital in Shahrekord, Iran from September 2006 to September 2008. The sexual functions of all candidates were evaluated using an International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire before and three months after the surgery. Pre and postoperative mean scores were analyzed for five domains of sexual function and data were compared with Wilcoxon test. Results: The mean age of the patients was 31.5±10.5 and average number of children per man was 4±5.6. The ages, of the children were between three months to twenty years. Our results showed that total mean score of the IIEF was 58.12 before the surgery and it was significantly changed to 63.59 after the procedure (P<0.001). In general, 43 percent of patients improved their IIEF scores, while it was reduced in 41 percent of the patients and finally 16 percent of the candidates did not show any changes in the IIEF score following surgery. We found that from 5 sexual function domains, the candidates showed statistically significant improvement in sexual satisfaction, erectile function and orgasm. Conclusion: This study showed that Vasectomy can have a positive impact on sexual function, especially on sexual satisfaction, erectile function and orgasm.

Abstract:

Vasectomy in laboratory animals is a crucial step in the production of surrogate female mice. The surrogate mothers play a key role in successful embryo transfer, most important steps for the production of transgenic animal models, investigation of the preimplantation embryo development, and revitalization of cryopreserved strains. Abdominal and scrotal surgeries are common surgical procedures used in routine veterinary practice to produce vasectomized males. Two different surgical practice, namely electrosurgery and cold surgical practice, have been used as common techniques in operating rooms. Based on current knowledge, there is no published “ technical note” as a detailed and step by step guideline to describe Vasectomy using an electrosurgery machine (i. e., Bovie machine) in laboratory animal research and breeding facilities. The common problem during the laboratory animal surgery would be animal mortalities as a consequence of profound bleeding. The use of Bovie machine leads to the prevention of profound bleeding during the surgical practice.

Abstract:

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and postoperative morbidity of percutaneous no-scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) via one puncture in China. Materials and Methods: A total of 150 men visiting outpatient clinic of the surgery department of urology, Huashan Hospital and its Baoshan branch of Fudan University, opted for percutaneous NSV with local anesthesia. The clinical data of 150 who underwent modified NSV (MNSV) were retrospectively compared with those of 120 patients who underwent standard NSV (SNSV). The results and follow-up were recorded. Results: The reviewed average operative time was 9. 8 min (range 8 to 20 min). Average incisional length was 5 mm (range 4 to 8 mm). Patients reported complete recovery in an average of 8. 5 days (range 4 to 14 days). The complication rates were extremely low with this modified technique. Only one case of late healed incision was observed (0. 67%). Conclusion: Percutaneous NSV via one puncture was proved to be a painless and effective form of permanent contraception with an extremely low complication rate.

Abstract:

Vasectomy is one of the most common form of male contraception. It has been reported that vasovasostomy had little success in refertilization. One reason might be because of changes in the epididymis and its effects on growth of sperm cells. This study is concerned with histopathologic changes in rats after Vasectomy. Thirty rats were divided in groups; bilateral Vasectomy group, right Vasectomy, left side sham - operated group and bilateral sham - operated group. In each group one half were sacrificed after two months and the others after four months post-operation. Their epididymis was removed and stained and then observed under microscope. Rupture of tubules, cysts, sperm gronuloma, increase of interstitial soft tissues, increase in leukocytes, detachment of epithelial cells, necrosis of tissues of the epididymis, excuda and degeneration of sperm were observed in the cauda of epididymis of the vasectomized group. In the sham groups everything was normal and no changes were observed. There were no considerable differences between the caput and corpus of the epididymis of vasectomized and sham groups.

Abstract:

It has given permit to health center for Vasectomy by government since 1987, but it is not accepted easily due to cultural and religious factors and so wrong imaginations. Our purpose was to study the effects of education on acceptance of this procedure. So in a quasi-experimental study by multistage sampling 281 teachers were surveyed in 1996. We collected data with a questionnaire that developed by investigator. The experimental group participated in an educational program by lecture and flap chart. After 10 days their attitude to Vasectomy were measured and the results were compared. There was not significant difference between mean Scores of attitude to Vasectomy in two groups before training and pre and posttest in control group. Mean Scores of attitude to Vasectomy were increased after training (control group X = 3.29, SD = 1.03, Experimental group X=3.68, SD=0.99, P<0.05) and there were a significant difference between two groups. Comparison of mean scores of attitude in experimental-group showed a significant deference in pre (X=3.22, SD=1.10) and posttest (X=3.68, SD=0.99, P<0.05).In comparison, mean scores in terms of Variables such as age group, level of education, the number of girls and boys (children) and occupation status of wife, were not significant deference. So, these results suggest that even with short educational programs, it is possible that suitable healthy behavior create in people.
