Abstract:

Adaptability in Teenagers as the most important sign of their mental health is one of the topics that has attracted the attention of many sociologists, psychologists and educators in recent decades. Social growth is the most important aspect of the growth of every person's existence, and the criterion for measuring the social growth of everyone is his compatibility with others. Adaptation, like physical, emotional and mental growth, is a continuous quantity and it gradually reaches perfection and is achieved naturally during life and in dealing with experiences. In other words, with the passing of childhood and entering adolescence, psycho-social development changes from a simple transformation to a profound and qualitative transformation, and by using social skills, a Teenager can find his place among social interactions and relationships with peers and find adults and be socially accepted. Success in social acceptance leads to adaptability and may bring a person to the stage of social influence, which is a higher level than social acceptance, and at this stage, he can influence those around him. In the definition of compatibility, it can be said that compatibility means the relationship that exists between a person and his environment, especially the social environment, and enables him to respond to his needs and motivations.

Abstract:

Background: Substance use is a growing problem in many countries especially among Teenagers. We aimed to estimate the prevalence and complications of substance use in Teenagers referring to a tertiary hospital following intoxication. Methods: In a cross-sectional study between 2012 and 2013 in Loghman Hakim Hospital, Tehran, Iran, sixteen substances were checked in Teenagers referring due to poisoning. They divided into two groups of young (13 to <16 yr; group 1) and old-Teenagers (16 to 19 yr; group 2). History of lifetime substance use and drug use within the week prior to admission were recorded. Results: Mean (range) age of young Teenagers was 14. 5± 0. 6 [13, 15] and 17. 7± 1. 1 [16, 19] in old-Teenagers with female predominance. Of 264 Teenagers, four in group 1 and 27 in group 2 were admitted due to drug overdose. Six and 69 patients in groups 1 and 2 claimed that they had used some kind of substance in the week prior to admission. Twenty (37%) and 106 (50. 5%) patients in the young and old-Teenager groups were defined as drug users and rates of unreported substance use were 27. 8% (15 cases) and 23. 8% (50 cases) respectively. Ninety-six substance users (36. 4%) had referred due to poisonings other than recreational intoxication (P<. 001). Screening toxicological lab data showed significant opioid and sedative exposure in old-Teenagers. Conclusion: It seems young adolescents hide their drug abuse more than old Teenagers. Using illicit drugs screening tests may help us to provide hidden rate of abuse in Teenagers.

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: PREGNANCY AT YOUNGER AGE IS CONSIDERED AS HIGH-RISK PREGNANCY AND THE PREVALENCE OF PREGNANCY AT YOUNGER AGE IS HIGH. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS TO EVALUATE MATERNAL AND PRINATAL OUTCOMES IN Teenage PREGNANCIES AND PREGNANCIES AT 20-35 YEARS.METHODS: THIS CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY WAS CONDUCTED FOR ONE YEAR AT THREE EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS OF MASHHAD UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES FROM JULY 2012 TO JULY 2013. THE STUDY GROUP CONSISTED OF PRIMIGRAVID WOMEN BEFORE THE AGE OF 20 YEARS AND PRIMIGRAVID WOMEN 20-35 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY.100 PRIMIGRAVID Teenage PREGNANCIES AND 200 PRIMIGRAVID PREGNANCIES AT AGE OF 20-35 YEARS WERE ENROLLED IN THE SAME PERIOD. QUESTIONNAIRE WAS SET ACCORDING TO DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS, GESTATIONAL AGE, AND OTHER VARIABLES (PREVIOUS MEDICAL HISTORY, PATIENTS' CONDITION AT THE CURRENT PREGNANCY, THE STATUS OF NEONATE) AND WAS ACCURATELY FILLED OUT BY THE RESEARCHER. PATIENTS WITH HISTORY OF DIABETES, HYPERTENSION, THYROID DISEASE, AND ANY OTHER MEDICAL PROBLEM WERE EXCLUDED. THE RESULTS WERE ANALYZED…..

Abstract:

Introduction: This study aimed to assess Serum Vitamin D level and female Teenage caries experience. Materials and Methods: This study evaluated 330 healthy female Iranian students between 13 to 19 years residing in Rey city. A questionnaire collected their demographic information. They underwent clinical dental examination to determine the number of decayed (D), missing (M) and filled (F) teeth (DMFT index). The nutritional status was evaluated using the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) by assessing the consumption of cariostatic, cariogenic, remineralizing, sticky foods and carbohydrates. The serum samples were collected to measure the serum vitamin D level using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Data were analyzed by multiple logistic regression and independent samples t-test. Results: The mean DMFT was 5. 34±3. 94. of all, 69. 3% had severe vitamin D deficiency, 20. 3% had moderate vitamin D deficiency and 10. 4% had normal level of vitamin D. Cariostatic agents consumption had a significant inverse correlation with DMFT (P=0. 006). An increase in serum level of vitamin D by more than 10. 27ng/mL was associated with a reduction in prevalence of dental caries by 22%. Increased consumption of cariostatic agents by more than 89. 30g/day decreased the prevalence of dental caries by 32%. No significant association was noted between the prevalence of dental caries and level of parent’s education, consanguinity of parents, level of income, place of residence, frequency of tooth brushing, dental flossing, and dental visits (P>0. 05). Conclusion: While the serum vitamin D level had no significant effect on DMFT, the nutritional regimen seemed to play a more important role in caries control.
