INTRODUCTION: FRICTION, WEAR AND LUBRICATION ARE TOPICS IN SURFACE CHEMISTRY THAT ALL THREE DEPEND ON THE BEHAVIOUR AND PROPERTIES OF SURFACE FILMS [1]. SINCE PURE MINERAL OR SYNTHETIC OILS DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENT TO WORK PROPERLY IN MODERN, HIGH-TECH ENGINES, A NUMBER OF CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS HAS TO BE ADMIXED WITH OILS, AS ADDITIVES TO MODIFY OIL PROPERTIES AND ENHANCE THE TRIBOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF METAL SURFACES. IN ADDITION TO THE LACK OF SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE, LUBRICANT TECHNOLOGY FACES SEVERAL ISSUES THAT HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED. A MODERN LUBRICANT MUST BE ABLE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR AN EXTREME OPERATING CONDITION AS WELL AS IT MUST BE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY. THIS PUTS EMPHASIS ON DESIGNING NEW LUBRICANTS THAT POSSESS SUCH DEMANDING QUALITIES. THEREFORE, THIS WORK WAS UNDERTAKEN TO STUDY TWO SYNTHETIC COMPOUNDS AS EFFECTIVE AND ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY ANTI-WEAR, ANTI-FRICTION ADDITIVES...
