Introduction: The aim of this survey was to assess psychometric properties of GHQ-28 in Iranian psychiatric population and appropriating it as a screening instrument for assessing general health in this population.Method and Materials: This was a psychometric study executed on 80 psychiatric patients and 80 matched normal participants. The assessments consisted of a psychiatrist’s interview based on DSM.IV criteria, and administration of GHQ-28 and a demographic questionnaire. Data was analyzed using factor, discrimination and regression analysis methods, as well as Pearson’s correlation co-efficient, Spearman- Brown’s and Guttmann’s split tests.Findings: Four factors were extracted from the GHQ-28, of which the first three explained the most percenttage of variance. Clinical cut-off point, sensitivity, specificity and classification error were found to be 24, 0.80, 0.99, 0.10 respectively. Criterion validity Chronbach's alpha and split reliability co-efficient were found to be 0.78, 0.97 and 0.90 respectively.Discussion: Factor analysis revealed that the four factors which are the basics in this questionnaire have a high internal consistency. The calculated optimal clinical cut-off point for screening general health in Iranian population was 24 which ensure optimal psychometric indices. Coefficients of criterion validity, structural validity and reliability showed that GHQ-28 is one of the most valid instruments for screening general health.

The purpose of this study was the standardization of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) for the students of Shiraz University based on their to sex, academic year and native/non-native trait. The participants were 1146 students of Shiraz University. The results showed that the male students compare to females also non native students compared to the native ones had better general health. However, there was no significant difference between the students studying different academic years also between the graduate and under-graduate students. The schedules of normalization for students are presented according to their academic year, sex and college.

Background: This study aimed to assess the mental health status in partners of military personnel who were suffering from PTSD and had been referred to 505 Hospital.Materials and methods: In a case control study with a non-random sampling, 40 patients who met the inclusion criteria and 40 controls were selected. They were asked to fill in the GHQ-28. PTSD was diagnosed according to DSM-IV Results: Totally, 55% of cases and 27.5% of controls had general health problem with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). There were also significant differences between two groups about somatic, anxious, depression, and social function (P<0.05).Conclusion: Our evaluation showed that general health in wives of military personnel with PTSD is lower in comparison with those without PTSD.

Background and Aim: Mental health is one of the most important factors which can affect all aspects of human life. One of the questionnaires to screen the non-psychotic disorders is the general health questionnaire (GHQ). This meta-analysis study aims to investigate the psychological disorders by using general health questionnaire (GHQ) in Iranian university students.Materials and Methods: We searched PubMed, Scopus, MAGIran, Iranmedex, Medlib, SID and ISI data bases for GHQ, psychotic disorders and students as main key words. In order to assess homogeneity and publication bias we used I2 index and Egger test. CMA 2.0 software was used for data analysis.Results: We found 77 studies performed between 1991 and 2015 which included 44162 students. By using random models, we found a prevalence rate of 33% (95% CI: 0.295, 0.371) for mental disorders among Iranian students which showed an increasing trend (p<0.01).Conclusion: In this study we found a high prevalence rate of mental disorders with an increasing trend in the Iranian students.
