Abstract:

Basal Cell Carcinomas (BCCs) are locally invasive skin cancers which are known as the most frequent malignancy in the white population. Exposure to UV radiation, genetic predisposition, increased age, previous radiotherapy, male sex and extensive use of sun beds are among the risk factors. Different treatments have been used for the management of BCCs which include excisional surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, radiotherapy, electrodessication and CURETTAGE, photodynamic therapy and Imiquimod.

Abstract:

Primary fallopian tube carcinomas (PFTC) are rare tumors with non-specific clinical presentations. The current case was unique since the tumor was first detected on endometrial CURETTAGE and clinicoradiologically was misdiagnosed as endometrial carcinoma. A 48-year-old, post-menopausal female presented with one episode of vaginal bleeding. Endometrial CURETTAGE showed poorly differentiated carcinoma, while cervicovaginal Papanicolaou (Pap) smear was negative for malignant cells. Right sided fallopian tube carcinoma in-situ was diagnosed on histopathological examination of surgical hysterectomy with B/L salpingo-oophorectomy specimen. As observed in the current case, unusual tumor histology with broad papillary fronds lined by pleomorphic cells showing nuclear stratification and focal involvement of endometrial CURETTAGE specimen may be considered a useful pointer for tubal malignancy.

Abstract:

Background: Endometrial receptivity is required for successful implantation and pregnancy. Despite the remaining controversy, many studies have shown that ultrasonographic endometrial thickness can be considered as an indicator of endometrial receptivity. Objective: The study objective was to investigate the effect of dilatation and CURETTAGE on the endometrial thickness.Materials and Methods: Enrolled in the study were 444 patients visited in Obstetrics & Gynecology clinic of Shahid Sadoughi hospital between Jan.2011 to Sep.2012. Only patients whose menstrual cycle was regular were included in study. Patients with myoma, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps or other uterine anomaly, those who smoked, whose BMI was greater than 30 and who were taking medications that could affect endometrial thickness were excluded. Endometrial thickness was measured one day before evolution (n=444) and 5-7 days after it (n=444) using transvaginal ultrasonography. The endometrial thicknesses were correlated to the patients’ history of dilatation and CURETTAGE. Data analysis was done through SPSS software version 16 and using descriptive statistics, independent T-test and Anova. Results: Endometrial thickness in patients who had 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 D&C were 10.00±0.58, 9.83±0.47, 8.90±0.92, 7.42±0.18 and 7.40±0.07, respectively one day before ovulation (spearman’s correlation coefficient=-0.33) and 10.62±0.68, 9.64±0.49, 8.48±0.96, 6.32±0.15 and 6.90±0.04, respectively, 5-7 days after ovulation (spearman’s correlation coefficient=-0.66) estradiol and progesterone levels, measured in the day of 2nd ultrasonography had not statistic relation with endometrial thickness (P=0.27 and 0.31). The relation of endometrial thickness and age was not significant (P=0.54 and 0.06).Conclusions: Dilatation and CURETTAGE has a significant effect on the endometrial thinning.

Background and Objectives Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) infection leading to Infectious Mononucleosis (IM) is one of the etiologies of fever in women after CURETTAGE. EBV is a virus that can be transferred from carrier to the recipient through contact. The focus of this article is to bring more awareness to EBV as a rare cause of infection and fever after CURETTAGE procedure. Case Report This is a case of a woman who developed fever after CURETTAGE procedure. After a series of medical tests the cause of her fever was found to be IM from an EBV infection. The emphasis of this report is to bring medical team s attention to both common and uncommon etiologies of fever after an abortion procedure for better diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Abstract:

Introduction & Objective: Skin cancers are the most common malignancies of the mankind. Basal call carcinoma (BCC) constitutes the most prevalent skin cancer in human beings. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic and cosmetic results of three methods of treatment of BCC i.e. CURETTAGE, surgical excision and combined CURETTAGE and cauterization.Materials & Methods: This is an interventional study, through which 79 lesions of BCC on the faces and scalps of 64 patients in 3esat hospital of Sanandaj city in 2001-2003 were treated by CURETTAGE, surgical excision and combined CURETTAGE and cauterization. Collected data were recorded in frequency tables. Results: 69 (87.3%) of tumors were papulonodular type, 61 of hem had an ulcer on their surface. 26 tumors were treated by surgery which had a cure rate of 91.7%. 45 (57%) tumors were of solid type. During the follow-up period, an overall recurrence rate of 11.4% (9 tumors) was noticed. Two of the tumors that were reacted by surgery, 5 of the tumors treated by CURETTAGE, and 2 of those which were treated by combined CURETTAGE and cauterization recurred. The cosmetic result in the patients who had been treated by CURETTAGE was quite promising, only a small scar or a slight hyper pigmentation was left at the site of the lesions. Conclusion: CURETTAGE is more suitable for the treatment of small lesions of B.C, but it is not recommended for the treatment of the tumors having aggressive behavior or rapid growth. The cosmetic result in the patients treated by combined CURETTAGE and cauterization of the lesions was also excellent and in most cases car was minimal or absent. Combined CURETTAGE and cauterization a cheap and suitable method for the treatment of BCC and it can easily be accomplished.

Abstract:

Background: Enchondroma is the most common benign bone tumor in hand, which can be seen in various manifestations such as swelling, pain, deformity and pathologic fracture. Different surgical treatments were reported for enchondroma to prevent the progressive deformity and pathological fractures. The purpose of this study was to investigate the result of treatment of enchondroma of hand with CURETTAGE alone. Methods: In a cross sectional study, 17 patients with average age of 32 years with enchondroma of hand who were operated in a 6-year period in a training hospital in Tehran-Iran were evaluated. The patients received the treatment of tumor removal without filling the resultant defect. The cases were evaluated for range of motion, grip power and radiographic Tordai classification. Results: In a 15.2 month (12-88 months) follow-up no recurrence was observed and all of the patients re-gained their previous finger range of motion. Conclusion: Treatment of enchondroma of hand with CURETTAGE alone, without filling the defect would result in satisfactory outcome with low recurrence rate and good restoration of power and function.

Abstract:

Introduction and Objective: Hemolytic diseases in fetal and newborn were known for years the principle of these pathologies is defined. Basically, entrance of fetal blood cells to maternal circulation results in these ranges of diseases. Risk factor determination, early diagnosis of F.M.H and adequate dosage of Anti- D Ig administration will be attempted to prevent subsequent adverse outcome on fetus and newborn. The quantification of fetal cells in the maternal circulation post- CURETTAGE miscarriage remains an important goal to prevent active immunization in mother.Materials & Methods: In this cross sectional study, during six months, from April 2004, one hundred patients post- abortion therapeutic CURETTAGE enrolled, in Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad University. Maternal age, gestational age, maternal blood group and Rh, gravidity, severity of maternal hemorrhage, HcT, BP and duration of vaginal bleeding were recorded. The KB test was done in all patients amount of F.M.H and Rh IgG dosage in positive KB patients were calculated. Data were analyzed with SPSS (Ver. 10) software. Results: The KB test was positive in 35% of the patient. Gestational age, maternal H.ct, pain and severity hemorrhage had significant relation to K.B test positive. F.M.H was 0.1-5 cc in 17 patients and in 18 was less. Conclusion: Lower gestational age in abortion time decreases FMH risk the usual Rh- IgG dosage (50 μgr) sounded to be adequate for Rh Immunization after post- abortion therapeutic CURETTAGE.

Abstract:

The Purpose of this study was determination of prevalence of various findings in pathologic reports of D&C that were done for abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) in pre/peri/postmenopausal women.Study population in this descriptive cross-sectional study was all of D&C operations that were done for AUB indication in Alzahra hospital from April 1997 until April 1998. Their pathologic reports were collected from various pathobiologic laboratories of Rasht. We determined the frequency of different histologic diagnosis in 15-40, 41-50, and after 50 years old women.502 pathologic reports were used in this study. The most common diagnosis was "normal" (54.6%). The most common diagnosises in pre and peri menopausal women were "normal" (55.1% and 61.5%) and "pregnancy contents" (37.7% and 20.7%). Histologic findings after age 50 were "hyperplasia" (48%), "polyp" (20%), "cancer" (16%), and "endometritis" (16%). Although AUB in postmenopusal women is associated with endometrial histologic abnormality but AUB in premenopausal women is not usually with this finding.
