Abstract:

Background: Chronic diabetes is substantially associated with circulatory disorders in lower limbs. Vacuum-COMPRESSION Therapy (VCT) has been commonly used in treatment of peripheral circulatory disorders. VCT is based on intermittent alteration of Positive- Negative pressure phases. The purpose of this study was to determine effects of VCT on diabetic subjects' peripheral blood flow. Methods: In this Before-After and case-series study, 18 type 2 diabetic subjects with diabetic neuropathy and/or peripheral vascular disease (PVD) completed the study. Subjects received 45 min of VCT for 10 sessions three times weekly. Blood flow (calf+foot) was measured via venous occlusion plethysmography. Results: Among Variables of "Arterial Inflow", "Venous Outflow", "Venous Capacity", "Postischemic Reactive Hyperemia" and "Peak Flow of Reactive Hyperemia", only "Venous Outflow" significantly improved after 10 sessions treatment via VCT (P<0.05).Conclusions: Arterial blood inflow, which was the most important determinant evaluated in this study, was not increased via VCT. Additional studies are required to investigate the effective VCT parameters and duration of each session and number of sessions, considering progressive and deteriorative natural history of diabetes.

Abstract:

Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a promising therapeutic technique for pain control in patients with pathologic fractures of vertebral bodies. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is an appropriate treatment for vertebral pathologic fractures, which is resistant to other usual treatment. It is a useful and only choice in special cases, because of less tissue damage and there is no risk of open surgery and patient's embolization is rapid. Herein we described the first case of percutaneous vertebroplasty in Yazd shahid sadoughi teaching hospital, which was done in ordybehesht 1386 in a 72 years old male with pathologic fracture of 2 lumbar vertebrae. He was suffered from pain and disability and open surgery was not appropriate treatment for him.

Abstract:

Limit to the tension reinforcement ratio in flexural high strength reinforced concrete (HSRC) members is based on the requirement that tension failure as sufficient rotation capacity are ensured at ultimate limit state. However, the provisions for the total amount of longitudinal reinforcement ratio ( r and r¢ ) are not associated with any rational derivation. In this paper, a quantitative measure to evaluate an upper limit to the COMPRESSION reinforcement ratio r¢max of flexural HSRC members is proposed. The quantitative criterion to r¢max  can be derived from i) steel congestion and ii) considerations that are related to the diagonal COMPRESSION bearing capacity of the members. In this paper it is shown that, when shear loading is dominant, the limit to r¢ is set by the diagonal COMPRESSION criterion. Parameters that affect this limit are deeply investigated and the expressions were derived for different end conditions, to provide an additional tool for a better design and assessment of the flexural capacity of HSRC members.

Abstract:

Paulownia is one of the fast-growing species that was attended to supply industrial requirement in recent years. The application of this species is limited because of low density, so wood modification via COMPRESSION and densification is an effective method. For this purpose, the paulownia boles were prepared from Shastkalateh forest and cut into blocks with 60×20×20 mm dimension. The variable factors of this test were effective factors in press process consist of COMPRESSION percentage and direction and percentage of COMPRESSION, press time and press temperature. Specimens were impregnated with 10% concentration PF resins before COMPRESSION. Densification was done at 3 percentages (30%, 40% and 50%) and two directions (radial, tangential). Pressing process were done at two temperature levels (170 and 190oC), and two periods of time (8 and 12 minute) residual COMPRESSION was determined after 24 hour submerging in the water. Results showed that COMPRESSION percentage and direction in modified wood had significant difference compared with control samples. But the effects of press temperature and time were not significant. The best treatment for paulownia wood was obtained in radial direction and 50% COMPRESSION. But it depends on conditions.

Abstract:

Conventional Flux COMPRESSION Generators (FCG"s) are used to generate high power ‎DC pulses. A new kind of (FCG"s) with series capacitance called Capacitive Flux ‎COMPRESSION Generator (CFCG) will be introduced and explained in this paper. This ‎new kind is used to generate modulated high power pulses. There are some problems ‎to establish a capacitance in high power and high frequency applications. In the ‎present paper several practical methods will be addresed to make capacitance in high ‎power and high frequency applications‎‏.‏

Abstract:

CONTEXT-BASED LOSSLESS IMAGE COMPRESSION SCHEMES USE 180° TYPE MODELING CONTEXTS IN ONE PASS SCANNING AN IMAGE. IN THIS PAPER, A LOSSLESS IMAGE COMPRESSION (LIC) SCHEME IS INTRODUCED AND FOR CAPTURING HIGH-ORDER DEPENDENCIES, STATISTICAL FEATURES AND SPATIAL CONFIGURATION OF AN IMAGE, THREEPASS SCHEME WITH 360° TYPE MODELING CONTEXTS IS PROPOSED. LINEAR AND NONLINEAR RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PIXELS IN A CONTEXT ARE USED FOR CONTEXT DETERMINATION. ALSO THE THREE-PASS ALGORITHM IS APPLIED TO JPEG-LS STANDARD, AND FOR CONTEXT DETERMINATION, LOCAL GRADIENTS OF INTENSITY CAPTURING THE LEVEL OF ACTIVITY (SMOOTHNESS, EDGINESS) SURROUNDING A PIXEL, IS EMPLOYED. FOR IMAGES WITH SMALL DIMENSIONS THREE-PASS SCHEMES AND FOR LARGE DIMENSIONS ONE-PASS SCHEMES RESULT IN HIGHER COMPRESSION RATIOS.

Abstract:

Spinal COMPRESSION fractures are common and may occur as a result of benign or malignant processes. Benign COMPRESSION fractures may occur as a result of trauma, osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, other metabolic diseases, infection (especially atypical infections which may not involve the disk space), eosinophilic granuloma and benign primary bone tumors such as hemangioma. Malignant COMPRESSION fractures are most commonly encountered as a result of metastatic disease, multiple myeloma which is the most common primary bone tumor and leukemia. Rarely, malignant COMPRESSION fractures occur as a result of other malignant primary bone tumors.Differentiation of malignant and benign COMPRESSION fractures may be challenging. Both clinical findings and different imaging techniques are used for differentiation. This may be particularly difficult in elderly patients who are predisposed to benign COMPRESSION fractures caused by osteoporosis. In this group benign fracture may result from minor trauma and can make the interpretation of the lesion difficult, if there is a known primary malignancy elsewhere. Establishing the correct diagnosis is of great importance in determining treatment and prognosis. In many instances biopsy and tissue diagnosis are necessary for the final diagnosis. The following imaging techniques are utilized in the evaluation of benign and malignant spinal COMPRESSION fractures: radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), bone scintigraphy, positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) and PET-CT.
