Abstract

The present study was designed and implemented with the aim of linguistic investigation of Euphemism as an influential component in language and culture in television programs. Therefore, this research is of applied and mixed type (qualitative-quantitative) and, its qualitative part is considered in the current research. Euphemism is one of conversational tools that causes enhance politeness and preserve social altitude. Speakers use Euphemism instead of Taboos which do' not deserve to be used in polite situation. Since Local programs have a lot of audiences,their use of language certainly has great effect on them,so,the providers try to use the politest form of language. This study tries to investigate the methods of constructing the Euphemism in Ilami dialect and answer this question that, what kind of tools is used for Euphemism in Ilami dialect? To achieve this goal, numbers of Ilam's local TV programs have been investigated. This study is a kind of descriptive, content-analysis research: the population of the study is the local program of Ilam TV during year 1395, which includes 270 days (540 hours) program. To select the proper sample, systematic random sampling has been done, and the proper sample size is about 54 days (108 hours) based on Cochran's formula. The obtained Euphemism was about 70 as well. Linguistic analysis of the obtained data has shown that linguistic tool for making Euphemism in Ilami dialect include: Fuzzy word, metaphoric Euphemism, reduplication, entailment, circumlocution, deletion, ellipsis and expansion like "Befarma".
