UNIFIED POWER FLOW CONTROLLER (UPFC), AS A INDICATIVE OF THE THIRD GENERATION OF FACTS DEVICES, IS BY FAR THE MOST ENCYCLOPAEDIC FACTS DEVICE, IN POWER SYSTEM STEADY-STATE IT CAN ACCOMPLISHMENT POWER FLOW REGULATION, REASONABLY CONTROLLING LINE ACTIVE POWER AND REACTIVE POWER, IMPROVING THE TRANSMISSION CAPACITY OF POWER SYSTEM, AND IN POWER SYSTEM TRANSIENT STATE IT CAN REALIZE FAST-ACTING REACTIVE POWER RESTITUTION, DYNAMICALLY SUPPORTING THE VOLTAGE AT THE ACCESS POINT AND IMPROVING SYSTEM VOLTAGE STABILITY, MOREOVER, IT CAN IMPROVE THE DAMPING OF THE SYSTEM AND POWER ANGLE STABILITY. THE PRESENT PAPER SHOWS HOW THE UPFC INCREASES THE TRANSMISSION CAPACITY AND REDUCE THE POWER AGGLOMERATION IN THE TRANSMISSION LINE. TO STUDY THE PERFORMANCE OF THE USE OF THE UPFC ON AN EXISTING TRANSMISSION LINE, THE SIMULATION CARRIED OUT USING MATLAB-SIMULINK ENVIRONMENT.

IN THIS PAPER, A FAULT LOCATING METHOD BASED ON NATURAL FREQUENCY HAS BEEN PROPOSED FOR VSC-HVDC STAR-CONNECTED MULTI-TERMINAL LINES. WHEN FAULT OCCURS AT THE TRANSMISSION LINES, SOME TRANSIENT TRAVELLING WAVES APPEAR BY THE FORM OF A FREQUENCY SPECTRUM IN THE VOLTAGE AND CURRENT SIGNALS AND PROPAGATES FROM THE FAULT LOCATION TO THE BOTH SIDES OF THE LINE. IN THIS METHOD, BY MEASURING THE CURRENT SIGNALS AT EACH TERMINAL WITHOUT THE NEED OF DETERMINING THE ARRIVE TIME OF TRANSIENT WAVES AND SYNCHRONOUS LINK TO OTHER TERMINALS, THE FAULT-PRODUCED FREQUENCY SPECTRUM COULD BE DETERMINED AT EACH TERMINAL AND THEN BY DETERMINING THE DOMINANT FREQUENCY COMPONENT AND CALCULATING THE VELOCITY OF THE WAVES AT EACH LINE, THE FAULTY TERMINAL AND FAULT LOCATION WOULD BE DETECTED. TO DETERMINE THE DOMINANT FREQUENCY COMPONENT, FOURIER TRANSFORM ANALYSIS (FFT) WAS USED IN THIS ALGORITHM. SIMULATION RESULTS SHOW THAT THE PROPOSED METHOD IS SATISFACTORY AND WITH APPROPRIATE ACCURACY AND SPEED IS ABLE TO DETERMINE THE OCCURRED FAULTS ON THE PROTECTED LINES.

IN INDUSTRY INCREASING LOAD IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR POWER GENERATION FACTORIES TO INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR POWER. SO MAKE A BALANCE BETWEEN LOAD DEMAND AND GENERATION IS THE OPERATING FACT OF LOAD FREQUENCY CONTROL (LFC). THE TRUST WORTHY OPERATION OF A LARGE INTERCONNECTED POWER SYSTEM PRESENTLY REQUIRES AN AUTOMATIC GENERATION CONTROL (AGC).AUTOMATIC GENERATION CONTROL IS A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE IN POWER SYSTEM OPERATION AND CONTROL FOR BALANCING THE GENERATION AND LOAD IN POWER SYSTEMS AT A MINIMUM COST. THIS PAPER PRESENT ANALYSIS ON DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF LOAD FREQUENCY CONTROL OF FOUR AREA INTERCONNECTED POWER SYSTEM BY USE OF CONVENTIONAL PI CONTROLLER AND FUZZY LOGIC CONTROLLER (FLC). THE PROPOSED FUZZY LOGIC CONTROLLER ASSURANCES THAT INADVERTENT INTERCHANGE OF TIE-LINES POWER AND THE STEADY STATE ERROR OF FREQUENCIES ARE PRESERVED IN A CERTAIN FORBEARANCE LIMITATIONS.
