Introduction: The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of androgen decline in the aging male (ADAM) in a group of Indian men working in the health sector.Materials and Methods: A free medical health checkup camp was organized for the male workers aged between 40 and 60 years employed in surgical departments of our hospital. Of 180 listed male workers, 170 attended this camp and 157 eligible men participated in the study. After clinical history and systemic inquiry, the participants were requested to complete the Saint Louis University’s ADAM questionnaire, and their serum levels of free and total testosterone were measured.Results: Symptomatic andropause was found in 106 men (67.5%) on the basis of their responses to the questionnaire, of whom 41 (38.7%) had low serum free testosterone levels and 32 (30.2%) had low serum levels of total testosterone. Fifty-one men were asymptomatic according to the questionnaire and in this group, 11 (21.6%) had low serum free testosterone levels and 6 (11.8%) of these had low total testosterone levels. The frequency of andropause was 33.1% on the basis of low serum free testosterone levels and it was 26.1% when both symptoms and low serum free testosterone levels were taken into account.Conclusion: In our study, the high frequency of symptoms related to ADAM was unusual. This might be due to the nature of the questionnaire itself. Serum free testosterone measurement may be a better single test for diagnosis of hypogonadism than serum total testosterone measurement.

Objective: andropause syndrome is caused due to the deficiency in sex hormones and brings about symptoms of physical, psychological, and sexual nature. This study aims at investigating the prevalence of andropause syndrome in 40-65-year-old men in the central city of Iran (Arak). Materials and methods: This study is a descriptive cross-sectional research conducted on 600 men living in the city of Arak in 2017. The subjects were selected through cluster sampling and qADAM was used for collecting data including three areas (level of energy, psychological and sexual). The data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics (independent t-test and ANOVA) and using SPSS 16. Results: The results showed that the average questionnaire score increased with an increase in age up to 50 years and above. Correlation test for the three subscales of physical, psychological, and sexual showed that the psychological subscale had the highest correlation with andropause score (p < 0. 05). Among the items related to the subscales, the statement” I feel my sex drive has decreased” with mean and standard deviation of 3. 62 ± 1. 06 had the highest correlation with andropause and the statement “ I feel I have no value for society” with mean and standard deviation of 1. 7 ± 0. 86 had the lowest correlation with andropause. Conclusion: andropause age in Arak is 50 years and above. Average questionnaire score showed a positive direct relation with age. Decreased sex drive had the highest correlation and losing social value had the lowest correlation with andropause state.

Introduction: Menopause is a natural aging process that occurs due to decreased production of testosterone. As the population ages, andropause is becoming a serious health problem. Due to the limited studies on andropause in Iran and the unfamiliarity of men with this concept, a study was conducted to investigate the knowledge and attitudes of men over 40 years old in Meybod about andropause. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 400 men over 40 years of age. Sampling was cluster sampling and data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire, and then analyzed by analysis of variance, Pearson correlation test and regression test in SPSS software version 18. Results: Based on the results of the study, men's knowledge about andropause was low and their attitude was negative and the mean score of participants' knowledge about andropause by age groups (P <0. 05), education (P <0. 05) and occupation (P <0. 05 was significant and the mean score of their attitude towards andropause was significant in terms of age groups (P <0. 05) and occupation (P <0. 05) but in terms of education (P> 0. 05). ) did not make sense. According to Pearson correlation coefficient, there is a statistically significant relationship between the mean score of knowledge and the score of attitude. Conclusion: The knowledge of men in Meybod about andropause is low and their attitude is negative and they need more education about andropause.

Objectives: As men age, they experience changes due to reduced androgen level that is called andropause. Several factors contribute to reduced androgen levels in men. This study aimed at determining predictive factors for andropause. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in 2015 on 264 andropausal men living in Tabriz who were selected using cluster sampling. Data was collected from April 2015 to September 2015 using demographic questionnaires and the male andropause symptoms self-assessment questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the participants was 58. 8± 6. 3, and the mean male andropause symptoms self-assessment questionnaire score was 53. 7± 9. 9. In addition, linear regression analysis showed that the variables of education, employment, satisfaction with the spouse’ s behavior, housing status were among the predictors of andropause symptoms. Conclusions: According to the results, the prevalence of andropause symptoms was moderate. Some social determinants of health such as employment, education, and marital satisfaction played a role in andropause symptoms. It seems that conducting further studies on the main causes of this problem and finding practical solutions to reduce andropause symptoms is necessary for providing health care for andropausal men.

Introduction: andropause is an age-related decline in serum testosterone level and a constellation of signs and symptoms of hypogonadism. The primary aim of this study was; to evaluate the andropause symptoms and its relationship with the blood testosterone in Iranian men in Ahvaz.Materials & Methods: In this preliminary study 90 male university staffs with an age of more than 40 were randomly recruited from Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. Participants were asked to complete the androgen decline in the aging male (ADAM) questionnaire. Anthropometrics and their serum levels of free and total testosterone were measured.Results: According to the ADAM’s questionnaire, 66 (73.3%) reported andropause symptoms, of which 9 (13.8%) of them had a low level of free testosterone and 39 (59.2%) had a low level of total testosterone. The remaining symptomatic men had a normal level of free testosterone. There was no significant relationship between participants with and without andropause symptoms regarding age, BMI, blood pressure, income, free and total testosterone.Conclusion: There was a high level of andropause symptoms according to the ADAM questionnaire that was highly discrepant with the blood test for total and free testosterone. It seems that some symptoms in the ADAM questionnaire may relate to the other socio-economic factors e.g. income.

Background: To determine the relationship between sexual satisfaction and marital satisfaction according to personal characteristics. Materials and Methods: This is Cross sectional study. 200 volunteer healthy 45-65 years old men, who were met in the public centers of well socioeconomic district in North of Tehran, were interviewed. The questioner had two main parts: 1) Personal Characteristics 2) Sexual and marital satisfaction and their changes (0-10 Numerical Scale was used). The descriptive and interferential statistics were used (t test, ANOVA, Scheffe). (2007-2008).Results: There were correlating between sexual satisfaction and marital satisfaction, only significant difference between sexual satisfactions of age group 45-49 (highest satisfaction) with other age groups (p<0.05), and only significant difference between marital satisfaction of age group 45-49 (highest satisfaction) and age 60-65 (p<0.05). We found significant effect of decreasing energy, decrease of sex pleasure… in sexual satisfaction and marital satisfaction (p<0.05). Referring to financial situation since we found highest marital satisfaction and sexual satisfaction in high income, but it was not significant. Conclusion: We found highest marital satisfaction changes according to sexual satisfaction changes in age 60-65, and lowest one in age 45-49. We suggest more marital and sexual counselling for age over 60. Since most of changes were occurred over age 50, we suggest more education; guiding and counseling program for this group.
