Abstract:

The main idea of the THEORY of "USE AND SATISFACTION" is that the media has little ability to influence the audiences AND it is the audience who imposes their needs AND desires on the media AND affect its process of decision-making. According to this THEORY, media should be audience-oriented. This means that the main concern of is to satisfy the audience's desires, that is, bringing pleasure to them AND easing their pain in order to attract more audience. The theorists of this THEORY claim that this view contradicts some explicit Quranic teachings. The holy Quran does not ignore man's natural inclinations including his inclination for pleasure; moreover, some of its teachings are based on them. From the Quranic perspective, man's real needs are those needs whose SATISFACTION contributes to harnessing his natural talents. Conversely, secularists regard man's animal AND instinctive needs to be real, so they demAND form media to meet them,. According to the holy Quran, however, it is only by meeting man's real needs that people can be brought nearer to the ultimate aim of creation. Therefore, an ideal media which adopts a religious criterion should take into consideration audience's rational needs, interests AND desires. Taking into consideration the main theme of the aforementioned THEORY, the present paper tries to elucidate the view of the Quran on man's needs AND way of meeting them.

Abstract:

The article examines the effects the television exerts on modernism through its audience. In studying the audience factors such as the degree of exposure to the media, the content of exposure, the varying socio-cultural backgrounds play a central role in efficacy of the message. The above perspective has seldom been considered in domestic Iranian research. The basic question of this research is to understAND how a type of audience activity influences television impact's on modernism. Therefore, it is necessary that the relationship between television AND modernism be specified within the sample population. Then, one may go on studying the audience's role AND position in such a process. This is a survey research, which includes a sample of 1047 taken from hoUSEholds residing in Tehran's 22 city districts. The findings show that television impacts audiences differently, given their various socio-cultural groupings.

Abstract:

The polite listener In EnglAND stares at the speaker attentively AND blinks his eyes occasionally as a sign of interest. That eye-blink says nothing to Americans, who expect the listener to nod or to murmur something such as "mm - hmm”. AND in some parts of  Far East, it is impolite to look at the other person at all during conversation. It is often argued that, in teaching foreign languages, culture AND language are interwoven in a way that it is not possible to present language without its culture. However, until a new method of teaching language, called communicative approach, which is sociolinguistically oriented, had not come into existence, this belief was not USEd to be observed in textbooks AND language classes. This method intends to create situations in the classroom in which foreign language can be USEd as naturally AND authentically as the native speakers of target language USE it for communicative purposes. The problem of teaching culture, nevertheless, does not end here. Nowadays, foreign languages are taught with different AND varied objectives. Is it necessary for all foreign language learners to get familiar with the culture of foreign language they are supposed to learn? As Schumann (1984) claims, is it true that second language learning is impossible, unless one gives up his/her own native culture AND adopts the culture of foreign language community? What are some relevant issues regarding teaching English in Iran? These are actually some basic questions raised in this article. Whereas definite answers are not necessarily provided in this paper, some areas of research related to culture, AND teaching foreign language are put forward.
