Abstract:

The genus Thrips Linnaeus (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) with 37 species, is the largest genus in Thripinae from Iran. However, Thrips coloratus Schmutz was excluded from Iranian thrips because of its misidentification. Here, this species is recorded from Iran for the first time based on two specimens collected on the flowers of clover (Fabaceae) from Ilam province.

Abstract:

The fauna of Thysanoptera was studied in Qazvin Province, during 2013–2014. In this study, 38 species from 4 families and 20 genera were collected and identified; of which 27 species are recorded for fauna of Qazvin Province for the first time, that shown by asterisks (*). Amongst them, 5 species are predator and other species are phytophagous; and among phytophagous species, Thrips tabaci and Frankliniella intonsa are widely distributed. Their scientific names are as follow: I. Suborder TEREBRANTIA: Family AEOLOTHRIPIDAE: Aeolothrips albicinctus Haliday*, A. collaris Priesner*, A. fasciatus (L.) *, A. intermedius Bagnall; Family MELANTHRIPIDAE: Melanthrips fusus (Sulzer) *, M. knechteli Priesner*; Family THRIPIDAE: Dendrothrips phyllirea (Bagnall) *, Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouche) *, Neohydatothrips gracilipes Hood*, Anaphothrips obscures (Muller), A. sudanensis Trybom*, Aptinothrips elegans Priesner*, A. rufus (Haliday) *, Chirothrips kurdistanus zur Strassen*, Ch. manicatus (Haliday) *, Ch. meridionalis Bagnall*, Drepanothrips reuteri Uzel*, Frankliniella intonsa (Trybom), F. occidentalis (Pergande), F. pallid (Uzel), F. tenuicornis (Uzel) *, Limothrips transcaucasicus Savenko*, Microcephalothrips abdominalis (Crawford) *, Mycterothrips tschirkunae (Yakhontov) *, M. weii Mirab-balou, Shi & Chen*, Odontothrips confusus Priesner, Rubiothrips vitis (Priesner) *, Scolothrips longicornis Priesner*, Tenothrips discolor (Karny) *, T. frici (Uzel), Thrips atratus Haliday*, T. hawaiiensis (Morgan) *, T. meridionalis (Priesner) *, T. tabaci L., T. trehernei Priesner; II. Suborder TEREBRANTIA: Family PHLAEOTHRIPIDAE: Bagnalliella yuccae (Hinds) *, Haplothrips reuteri (Karny), and Haplothrips tritici (Kurdjumov).

Abstract:

The specimens of both sexes of Eremiothrips tamaricis (zur Strassen) were collected on tamarisk from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, south west of Iran. The male of the species is described and illustrated for the first time. It is unique among species of the genus in having transverse pore plates on abdominal sternites III and IV and the presence of small paired postero-marginal processes on tergite IX. The variation in number of posteromarginal setae on the pronotum, as well as host association for this species is briefly discussed.

Abstract:

Up to now, five species of Tenothrips namely, T. discolor (Karny), T. frici (Uzel), T. hispanicus (Bagnall), T. latoides (Pelikan) and T. reichardti (Priesner) have been recorded from Iran (Afsharizadeh Bami & Minaei, 2020). In this report, another species of the genus is recorded for the first time from this country. Thrips specimens were mounted onto slides in Hoyer’ s medium using the protocol given by Mound & Kibby (1998). Photomicrographs were made using an Olympus BX51 phase-contrast microscope with DP27 digital camera and cellSens software. The specimen is deposited in the Department of Plant Protection, College of Agriculture, Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran...

Abstract:

Mycterothrips albidicornis as fourteen Mycterothrips species in Iran is recorded from Fars province, south of Iran. This is the first record of this species outside Europe. Morphological characterization of the species, comparison with its close species and its illustrations is provided. The color and structure variation of M. albidicornis in comparison with literature are discussed.

Abstract:

In an online updated site (ThripsWiki, 2018) only 10 genera of the order Thysanoptera have more than 100 species of which the genus Thrips L. with 294 extant species is the largest one. Minaei et al., (2007) provided an information on four genera of Thrips genus-group in Iran. An illustrated key to 33 species of the genus has recently been prepared by Mirab-balou (2016a). A total of 34 species of the genus Thrips have hitherto been recorded from Iran (Mirab-balou, 2016b) and another species of the genus is here newly recorded and illustrated. Thrips specimens discussed in this paper were macerated in 5% NaOH solution for 4-5 hours. The specimens were then mounted onto slides in Hoyer’ s medium using the protocol described by Mound and Kibby (1998). The observations on structure were made using an Olympus BX51 phase-contrast microscope. Photomicrographs and measurements were made using this microscope with DP27 digital camera and cellSens software. Terminology follows that of Mound and Masumoto (2005). The slides are deposited in the Department of Plant Protection, College of Agriculture, Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran.

Abstract:

In a molecular phylogenetic study based on 5299 bp from five genetic loci, the family Thripidae has been recovered as monophyletic. However, the subfamily Thripinae is paraphyletic and requires further study to understand its internal relationships (Buckman et al., 2013)...
