Abstract:

Sohrab SEPEHRI and William Wordsworth belong to two different cultures and poetic traditions. In spite of obvious differences, however, the two poets deal with a common theme. The purpose of this paper is to examine this common theme from a comparative point of view. The two poems selected for this comparison are Wordsworth's Tintern Abbey and SEPEHRI's Water's Footsteps. The writer first presents a synopsis of each poem. This is followed by a brief discussion of the language and structure of the two poems. Next the writer presents a thematic comparison of the two poems, claiming that both poems are in fact strongly inspired by pantheistic doctrines. The writer also presents in the appendix a translation of the full text of Tintern Abbey, so that the reader may have a better understanding of the poem.

Abstract:

In line with personification and synesthesia, symbol is a significant characteristic of rhetorical level of Sohrab SEPEHRI’ s style. By means of iteration, some of the symbols have been converted to an important and remarkable characteristic and are considered as motif. According to stylistical investigations, words as “ water, light and illumination, loneliness, void, nothing, lotus flower, apple, anemone flower, green and blue color” are symbolic motifs of “ Hasht ketab” . These symbols are extracted from three parts; nature, Zen-buddhism and myth by which freshness and innovation are demonstrated in Sohrab SEPEHRI’ s poem. After defining symbol and motif in this article, symbolic motifs will be investigated by means of descriptive-analytical method, and according to poem’ s contexture, the specific and accurate meaning of them will be expressed in different poems.

Abstract:

In this article, Qeisar Aminpour''s hypothesis about the return of the poets to their childhood is studied in the poems of Sohrab SEPEHRI, one of the greatest contemporary poets. In his book titled “poem and childhood”, Aminpour refers to the comments by John Piagete, the famous psychologist and attempts to demonstrate that poem is a kind of return to the childhood. He explains the steps of awareness in a child and then writes about the most important aspects of behavior and thought in a child. He provides some examples of old and contemporary poets and shows their childish characteristics in their poetry. In this descriptive-analytic research, it is shown that Aminpour''s hypothesis is completely true about Sohrab, and so many aspects of his childhood are visible in his poems.

Abstract:

Concerning about the technological advances in the last decades and human alienation, Sohrab SEPEHRI has a deep viewpoint to the worldwide affairs. His poems reflect the problems and paradoxes in the modern world. While creating symmetry, he is portraying the Past and Present, Terrestrial and Extraterrestrial, in which the superiority is always given to the Past in his perfectionist mind. Sohrab is so awaken and multidimensional that to pursue sublimity he barely needs exaggeration. He surpasses the analytical reasoning clearance to express his message with supreme astonishment. Introversion and peacefulness in the lap of nature is one of the paramount in his poetry which are inspired by mysticism and romanticism in his thoughts which look up to sublimity. Problem: The question is whether Sohrab is looking for the usefulness in his poetry or astonishment? The hypothesis is that he is trying to use complicated images, to create astonishment, sublimity, mental and emotional induction in order to guide himself and his readers to another world and beyond. Significance of the Study is that the multidimensional sublimity in Sohrab is comparable to the ideas in Longinus, Burke and Kant. In other terms, Sohrab is pursuing an endless and non-conformist mystical love with an astonishing depth.
