Abstract:

Pollen grains of 13 species of the genus Rosa belonging to two subgenera, Rosa and Hulthemia, and one hybrid species were performed using light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The basic shape of pollen grains in 11 studied taxa is subprolate but prolate and rarely prolate- spheroidal pollen grains also can be found in nine species. The grains are usually trizonocolporate, aperture structure consists of 3 ectocolpi and 3 endopores. Endopores are located in the middle part of ectocolpi. Similar to the other genera of ROSACEAE, striate sculpturing is the main ornamentation of pollen grains. According to surface sculpturing features such as slope, diameter and distance between ridges, number and size of perforations is classified into four major types and four subordinate types; however, other ornamentation types such as gemmate are observed. Characters of pollen grain provide useful criteria for separating taxa in sectional and specific levels.

Abstract:

Cerasus paradoxa is described and illustrated as a new species endemic to Lorestan province, in the west of Iran. It is similar, and most closely related to C. microcarpa and C. yazdiana. The diagnostic morphological characteristics, as well as a full description, taxonomic status and figure of the new species are presented.

Abstract:

Spiraea sheikhii is described as a new species, from N. Iran. It is well characterized by corymbiform inflorescence, orbicular-ovate leaves, rose petals and densely pilose branches and corymbs. The new species seems to be related to S. trilobata and S. pilosa and it is compared with them.

Abstract:

Pollen morphology of some species of the genus Malus (ROSACEAE) was investigated taxonomically. All species are characteristic by tricolpate pollens. Exine sculpturing is variable but is mostly striate. However, species may differ in degree of density of ridges and their orientation. The exine patterns in M. trilobata and M. florentina are very similar and were characterized by short and very branched ridges. These show clear differences from other species, which have pollen grains with long and unbranched or slightly branched ridges.

Abstract:

As a summary of independent investigations by multiple authors, numerous updates are now required for the 1969 treatments of Potentilleae (ROSACEAE) in "Flora Iranica". Following the convergence of morphology-based conclusions by Sojak and molecular phylogenetic analysis by ERIKSSON et al., several sections of Potentilla L. are now treated as segregate genera. Potentilla sect. Fruticosae (Th. Wolf) Gross. becomes Dasiphora Raf.,with D. dryadanthoides Juz. Replacing P. phyllocalyx (Juz. Schiman-Czeika. Potentilla sect. Bifurcae (Th. Wolf) Grossh. becomes Schistophyllidium (Juz. ex Fed.) Ikonn., with the single species S. bifurcum (L.) Ikonn. replacing P. bifurca L. Potentilla sect. Xylorhizae (Th. Wolf) Schiman- Czeika becomes Tylosperma Botsch, encompassing P. lignosa Willd. (as T lignose [Willd.] Botsch.) and P. sericophylla Parker (combination in Tylosperma ined.). Potentilla sect. Rupestres (Th. Wolf) Grossh Becomes Drymocallis Fourr. ex Rydb., with D. poteriifolia (Boiss) Sojak replacing P. poteriifolia Boiss. Two other species of Drymocallis are added to the flora: D. rupestris (L.) Sojak and D. schiraziana (Khat.) Ertter & Attar, the latter a new combination provided for P. schiraziana Khat. In addition, Comarum salesovianum (Stephan) Bunge is replaced by Farinopsis salesoviana (Stephan) Chrtek & Sojak. Additions to B. Ertter and F. Attar Potentilla s.s. include P. discipulorum Davis, P. virgata Lehm., P. alexeenkoi Lipsky, P. agrimonioides M.-Bieb., P. bactriana Sojak, P. pannirica Th. Wolf, P. pamiroalaica Juz., P. gorganica Sojak, P. laciniosa Waldst. & Kit. ex Nestl., P. botschantzeviana T.A. Adylov, P. ghazniensis Sojak, P. porphyrantha Juz., P. algida Sojak, P. doubjonneana Cambess., P. crantzii (Crantz) Beck ex Fritsch, and P. adenophylla Boiss. & Hohenack. Among other changes are the inclusion of P. straussii Bornm. within P. speciosa Willd., P. canescens Besser within P. inclinata Villars., P. gilanica Tb. Wolf and P. adsharica Sommier & Levier within P. divaricata DC., and P. cryptophila Bornm. within P. petraea Willd. The inclusion of P. argyrophylla Wall. ex Lehm., P. hirta L., and P. tephroleuca Tb. Wolf in Flora Iranica is probably erroneous and based on other species.

Abstract:

Sorbus tiliaefolia is described as a new species from N. Iran. It is well characterized by the following characters. Leaves obliquely cordate, not lobed, leathery, pubescent in lower surface and as long as broad. Branches and corymbs are permanently pilose, fruits elliptic, retuse at the apex with deciduous sepals. The new species is a relative of Sorbus torminalis.

Abstract:

In this study, twelve quantitative and qualitative morphological traits were used to determine the relationships among several species of wild Rose (Rosa L. ). To determine the relationship of the morphological characteristics species multivariate analysis were used. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 18 and different methods of multivariate statistical analysis including cluster analysis (Ward) and ordination (PCA) was used and the results of morphological studies and diagnostic characters obtained in the analysis. Principal component analysis was introduced two main components, in which, in the first component, plant height, size and condition of the plant thorns, has a high rate and positive coefficients. Results grouped by Cluster Analysis (CA) were well correlated with the results of principal components analysis and a variety of different traits based on the similarities and differences between species are well separated from each other and this could help identify and classify morphological different species of this genus in systematic application.

Abstract:

Two new species of ROSACEAE and Boraginaceae are described. Crataegus zagrica from SW. Iran and Heliotropium esfahanicum from central Iran. C. zagrica differs from all species of the genus Crataegus in Iran by having deciduous sepals in fruits and H. esfahanicum differs from H. samoliflorum by having hairs which located in the middle of the corolla lobes, subulate hooked intercalary lobes and hairy nutlets.
