Background & Aims: Depression is one of the common psychological problems in the patients with gastrointestinal cancer and can affect their quality of life and recovery process. Various psychotherapy treatments are used to reduce depression in these patients. This study aimed to determine the effect of group LOGOTHERAPY based on the Frankel's LOGOTHERAPY School on depression in the patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Materials & Methods: This study was a semi-experimental research with a pre-test-post-test design. The research population was all the patients with gastrointestinal cancer referred to Omid Hospital in Urmia, Iran. Among the inpatients and outpatients, 50 patients with gastrointestinal cancer who met the inclusion criteria were selected using convenience sampling. Then the patients were allocated to control and intervention groups randomly. The data collection tool in the current study was a demographic questionnaire and Beck's depression questionnaire. All meetings were held online using the Ghara software. The intervention group was randomly divided into two groups of 12 and 13 people. Ten sessions, each lasting 60-90 minutes, were held for two weeks of group LOGOTHERAPY based on the Frankel's School for the patients in the intervention groups. The control group members did not receive any intervention. Beck Depression Questionnaire was completed by the participants of both groups before and at 4th and 30th days after the end of the intervention. The results were analyzed using SPSS version 22 software. Results: The mean score of depression in the intervention group in the first, second, and third stages were 22. 78 ± 7. 24, 10. 28 ± 3. 832, and 11. 17 ± 3. 73, respectively,however, in the control group, they were 20. 37 ± 7. 485, 21. 42 ± 6. 543, and 20. 47 ± 6. 67, respectively. According to the results of the repeated measures analysis of variance, the mean difference between depression scores in the first, second, and third phases were statistically significant, indicating the intervention's effect on the mean depression score (P=0. 003). Conclusion: These results show that LOGOTHERAPY based on the Frankel School can facilitate recovery of depression in patients with gastrointestinal cancer.

Introduction: This research studied the efficacy of group LOGOTHERAPY on life expectation in patients suffering from cancer at Shafa hospital in Ahvaz. Method: This is a semi-experimental with control group study. Samples included 40 patients bellow 45 years that were under treatment in June 2007 at Shafa hospital of Ahvaz. Samopling method was head counting. At first, all the patients passed the Miller life expectation test. Then, 40 patients with the least scores were selected as sample group and were divided randomly to two 20 member experimental and control groups. The experimental group received group LOGOTHERAPY in 10 sessions each lasted 45 minutes (one session each week). After that, Miller inventory life expectation was administrated again as the post-test to all samples. Data was analyzed using analysis of variance. The significance level was p<0.05. Results: There was significant differences between increasing life expectation in both experimental and control groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: Group LOGOTHERAPY increases life expectation in patients suffering from cancer.

The research purpose is to investigate the impact of group LOGOTHERAPY on the women's health improvement. Therefore 25 women among from Tehran's 22nd region were selected through availability mode and underwent the treatment. The research findings proved the impact of LOGOTHERAPY on women's general health and also the reduction in depression and anxiety.

Aim and Background: As cancer grows exponentially in world and affects the quality of life, the quintessence of taking appropriate actions on quality of life, like LOGOTHERAPY which is a psychotherapic intervention is essential. This study aims at measuring the impact of LOGOTHERAPY on the quality of life in cancer patients who were cured in Seyed-o-Shohada hospital, Isfahan, Iran in year 2012.Methods and Materials: This is a quasi-experimental study who was cured in Seyed-o-Shohada hospital, Isfahan, Iran in year 2012. It contains pretests and post-tests, and a questionnaire of demographic and SF-36 quality of life information.Sampling is done by convenience method and allocation of samples to two groups of intervention and control. Each group contains 37 samples. Samples are measured by standard tools of quality of life. Then LOGOTHERAPY sessions were arranged for patients in 8 session twice a week for 2 hours, and after a month they were again tested for their quality of life. Descriptive and analytical methods by SPSS software are used to render the statistics.Findings: The average of quality of life points after the intervention in comparison to what it was before the intervention in control group was 8.6±3.3 units reduced but in intervention group 19.8±3.1 units increased. According to the T test, the difference between the average quality of life points in intervention group is significantly increased in comparison to control group (t=-6.22 (df=71); P<0.001).Conclusions: This shows how this method can be used to improve the quality of life in cancer patients as well as their knowledge about cancer as related to the impacts of LOGOTHERAPY on their lives.
