Nitrogen fertilizers play a significant role in enhancing crop yield, shoot development, and metabolites production by increasing photosynthesis levels. The present study explores the effect of nitrogen on dry matter yield of a medicinal plant, i.e. LAVENDER (Lavandula officinalis L.). For so doing, an experiment was carried out with four replications, following a randomized complete block design, in the research field of Islamic Azad University, Shahr-e Rey. Different traits such as dry and wet weights of shoot, dry weights of leaf and stem, plant height, stem diameter, and the number of branches were treated using six different treatments including: control, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 kg nitrogen per hectare as urea resource. The results indicated that different amounts of nitrogen significantly affected all of the traits. An increase in the amount of nitrogen per hectare resulted in an increase in the traits under study in a way that two of the treatments, i.e. 150 and 180 kg nitrogen per hectare, resulted in the highest dry and wet weights in shoot and dry weights of leaf and stem.

Pain is an unpleasant experience that results from physical and psychological responses to injury. Since, the main goal of treatment is to control pain, finding safe, easy, and inexpensive methods for pain control is still a necessity. Aromatherapy has long been used to relieve pain and treatment of various diseases. LAVENDER is one of the most famous plants in aromatherapy that has importance and particular value in relieving pain and treatment of different diseases and has many applications in clinical practice. The use of LAVENDER as an alternative method of treatment decreases the need to chemical drugs in some of the physical and psychological problems. A review of literature on the analgesic effects of LAVENDER showed different effects and results. So, the need to further studies is tangible. Due to the necessity, this review study was done with aim to evaluate pain control with essential oil of LAVENDER. We reviewed articles indexed in the Medline, Pubmed, Scopus, Google scholar databases, between 2004 and 2015. The search was conducted by using key words: pain, pain control, aromatherapy and LAVENDER and relevant articles were extracted. Finally, 36 articles were studied. The results showed that the effects of LAVENDER in the management of acute and chronic pain, cancer pain and etc. mainly depend on the nature of pain and the method of administration. But in the most cases, LAVENDER has analgesic effects. Based on these findings, it is recommended further studies to prove it in various clinical situations and to determine the amount of required LAVENDER.

Background and Purpose: LAVENDER is a plant from lavandula genus (labiatae family) grows in south of Iran, south of Saudi Arabia and North Africa. Lavandula sublepoidota is an endemic species in Iran. The English name for this plant is LAVENDER. This herb is widely used in Iranian traditional medicine for the treatment of many diseases, including neurological diseases, digestive and respiratory diseases, and is referred to as tonic. New studies have reported some of the therapeutic results of this plant. In this article discussed two categories of the studies.Materials and Methods: This study was conducted using a review study. Traditional information of LAVENDER, including nature, habitat, verbs and properties, was extracted by searching traditional Iranian references. Then, by study the new books and articles, the toxicity and use of LAVENDER with the information extracted from the sources of traditional medicine were compared.Conclusion: Comparison and adaptation of traditional findings and current studies indicate that LAVENDER in traditional medicine sources can be one of the most important genera of Lavandula. This study could also be presented as an identification card for this plant.

Background and Objective: Burn is one of the leading causes of mortality in the world. This study was done to determine the effect of the LAVENDER, sesame oil, and combination of LAVENDER with sesame oil and silver sulfadiazine on the burn wound healing in mice.Methods: In this experimental study, 30 male adult albino mice were randomly allocated into 5 groups as follows: the negative control group (physiology serum); the positive control group (silver sulfadiazine); the first experimental group (sesame oil), the second experimental group (combination of LAVENDER with sesame oil) and the third experimental group (LAVENDER oil).Second degree of burn wound healing take place using hot sheet with a diameter of 2 cm. wound treatment was done in five groups in 21-day treatment period. The wound diameter size and restoration percentage were measured on days 1, 3, 6, 9, 18, and 21. Some mice were euthanized and the samples of wounds were used for histopathological studies.Results: The percentage of wound healing significantly increased in groups of silver sulfadiazine, combination of LAVENDER with sesame oil, LAVENDER oil and sesame oil in compared to control group (P<0.05). The improvement percentage was seen in sulfadiazine and combination of LAVENDER with sesame oil groups in compared to negative control group. The level of tissue restoration based on the accumulation of collagen, fibroblasts, re-epithelialization were seen in sulfadiazine, combination of LAVENDER with sesame oil, LAVENDER oil and sesame oil, respectively.Conclusion: Combination of LAVENDER with sesame oil similar to silver sulfadiazine has tissue restoration effect on burn wound healing in animal model.
