Abstract:

Muslim Arabs entered Iran in the seventh century (A.D.) with their victory over Sasanian Empire. During the first few centuries, the sociocultural condition in Iran was naturally influenced by the changes which had been occurred in the political scene. This influence was the result of the encounter of two distinct social regimes which had different cultural values and traditions. According to historians, the so-called Iranian-ISLAMIC civilization has been formed in the third century (10th c. A.D.). Two centuries of encounter between the two different socio-cultural regimes resulted in the cultural integration of the regimes, and finally formed a new framework.Although the new cultural configuration was based on ISLAMIC values, many of its . components had Iranian origin. The most important issue in the first few centuries - mostly called as the "Transition PERIOD" - was this fact that Iranians had tendency towards Islam and it attracted them. By analyzing the initial reaction of Iranian society in confrontation with Arabs and Islam, the present article tries to reach a comprehensive and better understanding of the growth and development of ISLAMIC culture in Iran.

Abstract:

Many studies have been undertaken with respect to the architecture of ISLAMIC mosques in Iran. In most of these studies, mosques have been investigated monographically, so researchers have paid close attention to the physical structure, historical changes, and ornaments. In this book, Barbara Finster has taken into account such a repetitive format. Besides, this book has thoroughly focused on the evolution of early ISLAMIC mosques in Iran. The present review has taken both form and content into account for further evaluation. This book can be regarded as one of the analytic and interpretive books which can open new horizons to ISLAMIC architecture in the early ISLAMIC centuries based on the writer’ s postulations. Although this outstanding work has some merits, it is not without demerits particularly with respect to its translation. The selection of inappropriate equivalents for the technical words and some content inaccuracies are some of the major pitfalls of the book.

Abstract:

Radjaz, the epic verse, is one of the oldest forms of Arabic poetry which in the pre ISLAMIC times included different subjects of priding on tribe or revenging or challenging someone to fight and the like. By the appearance of Islam, there were other subjects such as eagerness for martyrdom and defense of the prophet Mohammad added to former aims of Radjaz. Thus the ISLAMIC Radjaz was combined from meaning of Al-Jahiliyyah and sense of Islam. It seems that the Radjaz of Ashura, the day in which Imam Hoseyn ibn Ali (peace be upon him) was martyred, is the evolution of ISLAMIC Rajaz purified from Jahiliyyah meaning. It’s supposed, in addition, to be the greatest model of ISLAMIC literature of resistance in its time that influenced poems composed after. In this article, we try to prove this thought by comparing some Radjaz in ISLAMIC PERIOD with Radjaz of Ashura.

Abstract:

From a "Political Economy" perspective, some major changes in the ISLAMIC Republic of Iran, different from the nature and content of the ISLAMIC Revolution, have been occurred. These changes, during four PERIODs, from modernism to fundamentalism and traditionalism in the sphere of culture and ideology, from industrial capitalism and bourgeois orientation in economy to commercial capitalism and non-bourgeois orientation, and in the political sphere from liberal democracy and political pluralism to populism and theocracy, have been formed. This essay trys to explain the process of formation of intellectual trends in association with economic tendencies and power blocks (the relations of ideas to interests and political positions), and evaluate the possibility or impossibility of the realization of development and democracy in Iran.
