Abstract:

Pseudo-neutropenia is a rare phenomenon and has no physiologic consequences, 1-7 however, it may lead to multiple unnecessary tests if not recognized.8 A 20-year-old woman with no significant past medical history presented to her primary care physician with symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection. Complete blood count (CBC) performed the same day revealed a white blood cell (WBC) count of 3.7×109/L with a differential of 53% neutrophils, 30% lymphocytes, 17% monocytes and less than 1% eosinophils and basophils; hemoglobin of 12.6 g/mL and platelet count of 168×109/L. The patient completed a course of azithromycin with resolution of her symptoms. Two weeks after the first CBC, a repeat CBC was obtained to monitor her WBC. This second test revealed a WBC count of 3.6×109/L with no changes in the other parameters. The patient was referred to a hematologist for further evaluation of her apparent neutropenia.

Abstract:

Abstract:

This study investigated the effect of EDTA as a hole scavenger on accelerating the photocatalytic decolorization of direct blue 71 as a non-degradable model pollutant with nano TiO2 powder immobilized on a cementitious bed. For this purpose, 75 mg/L of the dye was decolorized in 75 minutes with 0.03 M of EDTA at a pH level of 6 and under irradiation produced by a 60-W UV-C lamp. This is while decolorization under identical conditions but in the absence of EDTA had been accomplished in 225 minutes. The experiment, therefore, confirmed the accelerating effect of the scavenger on decolorization. The kinetics of the photocatalytic process with EDTA followed a first order reaction with a constant rate of 0.05 min-1, which is 2.5 times faster than the process without EDTA.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of Ethylen glycol tetra acetic acid (EGTA) and EDTA for their smear layer removal capability using scanning electron microscopy technique.Material and Methods: A group of 28 single rooted teeth were instrumented to size 60 master file. Four teeth were also kept as control while the remaining teeth were divided into two groups. Group A: in which 12teeth were irrigated with 10 ml of 17% EGTA for 2 minutes? Group B: consisted of 12teeth irrigated with 10 ml of 17% EDTA for 2 minutes. Both groups were then irrigated with 10 ml of 5% Naocl. the control group were just irrigated with 10 ml of 5 % Naocl. All teeth in then the control group were only irrigated with 10 ml of 5% Nacl. Specimeus were then sectioned longitudinally. A scanning electrone microscope was wsed to in vetig ate the intenal surfaces of the canal. Results: EGTA chelated dentin surface more conservatively than EDTA without causing erosion. Conclusion: It seems that EGTA can be used safely to remove smear layer from the canal surfaces.

Abstract:

Background and purpose: CAD is the most important cause of mortality and morbidity in all orer the world. Aim of this study was to determine the effect of EDTA on the process of atherosclerosis. Materials and methods: The study is a randomized clinical trial. 14 patients whom were not suitable candidates for mechanical- Revascularization (PCI or CABG), were treated with EDTA injection twice weekly (25 injections). Data including demographic characteristics, clinical status, stress test results, Echo, and angiographic findings were recorded. Paired t- test McNemar was performed to analyse the data. Results: EDTA improved the clinical status and LVEF (P<0.0S) but the effect of EDTA on stress- test capacity and severity of angiographic coronary stenosis was not significant. Conclusion: It seems that patients who are not good candidates for mechanical revasculazation are suitable for EDTA therapy.

Abstract:

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different modifications of sequential synthetic oviductal_fluid (SOF) culture system on developmental competence of in vitro matured/fertilized cattle embryos.Materials and Methods: Bovine oocytes were matured and fertilized in vitro and then presumptive zygotes were randomly cultured for up to 9 days in different modifications of SOF culture system to consider the effects of glucose, serum and EDTA on embryo development. Results: All the embryo culture systems were efficient to support bovine embryo development till blastocyst stage. There was no significant difference in the ratios of embryos; however, the ratios of blastocyst and also hatchability of embryos cultured in SOF C (51.3%, 43.0% and 83.8%, respectively) were significantly higher than those of all the other SOF groups. Furthermore, while glucose had a partial improving effect on embryo development, a significant decrease in embryo development beyond the morula stage was observed in embryos cultured in SOF system with initial supplementation of EDTA compared with all the other groups. Conclusion: It was concluded that appropriate modifications of SOF culture systems can result insignificantly great in vitro embryo development.

Abstract:

Lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) are among heavy metals which enter water, soil, plants and ultimately the human and animals food chain from variouse resources and can cause serious damages. Several methods has been suggested for remediation of contaminated soils. Phytoremediation is a promising technology for this purpose. Harvesting and maximum extraction of contaminants from soil environment is the purpose of phytoremediation. Use of chelates, is one of the effective approaches for increasing the bioavailability of heavy metals. Therefore, In this study, the effects of Ethylene Diamine Tetra-acetic Acid (EDTA) as a chelating agent on increased absorption of Pb and Cd by Canola (Okapi) were studied. A pot experiment was conducted in the greenhouse as a factorial and completely randomized design with three replication. Factors included of: 1- EDTA Application in two levels (0 and 2.7 mmol kg-1 soil), 2- Pb at three levels (0, 150 and 500 mg kg-1 soil) and 3- Cd in three levels (0, 3 and 10 mg kg-1 soil). Consequently, a non-contaminated soil was selected and contaminated with different amounts of Pb and Cd. Then, canola seeds were planted and after harvest, Pb and Cd concentration in plants (grain and straw) and soil was measured. The results showed that EDTA application was able to increase Pb and Cd solubility in soil solution, resulting in increased absorption of Pb in straw (25.6 times) and grain (11.2 times) and Cd in straw (12 %). Also studying the Pb and Cd concentration in canola showed that in canola straw in contaminated treatments, Cd concentration (7.35-23.1 mg kg-1) in both levels of EDTA and Pb concentration (106.47-275.48 mg kg-1) only in treatment with EDTA were observed in toxicity limit.
