Abstract:

Background: Skin lesions and need for tissue evaluation, makes skin surgery an important part of treatment. Each excision is accompanied by skin repair. One of side effects of lesion excision is DOG ear and cosmetic problems, particulary on face. Case Report: A middle age woman presented with an old leishmaniosis scar in her face. she asked how can we remove the lesion with minimal scar. In the planned operation the lesion was excised some deeper fatty tissues at both ends. At the end of wound closure, there was not ant DOG ear around wound. Conclusion: There are numerous options to prevent and correct DOG ears at the end of skin closure-depending on size and location of the lesion. in our recommended technique, subdermal fatty excision attached to the lesion, may remain minimal extra skin at the end of skin closure.

Objective: Diagnosis of a cutaneous tumor mass in DOG for the first time in IRAN.Design: Case report. Animal: An 11- year- old male Dachshund.Procedure: The DOG with a cutaneous mass in the left perineum, was referred to the Small Animal Clinic, Faculty of veterinary Medicine, University of Tehran. The DOG was examined clinically and radiographs were taken from chest and ultrasonography of abdominal cavity was performed. The mass was removed surgically and fixed in buffered 10% formalin, tissue sections were made at 5m and stained with H&E. Results: A firm, non pedunculated (2.6x2.2x 1cm in diameter) mass was found macroscopically. The mass was umbilicated and ulcerated, overlying skin showed superficial necrotic layers. The cut surface was tan in color and lobulated with delicate collagenous stroma and areas of hemorrhages. Microscopically, the neoplastic cells were large, round to polyhedral with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and distinct cell boundaries and a centrally located round, vesicular nuclei. The cells resembled hepatocyte and generally showed disorderly growth and didn't form discrete lobules. Histopathologic examination revealed severe pleomorphism, frequent mitotic figures, areas of hemorrhages and the presence of scattered individual and small nests of invasive neoplastic eclls in the supporting stromal connective tissue. Radiographic and ultrasonographic examinations revealed no metastases in thorax and abdominal cavity. Clinical implications: According to location, macroscopic and histopathologic characteristics this mass was diagnosed as relatively well differentiated perianal glands adenocarcinoma. Hyperplasia and adenoma of perianal glands arc frequently observed, however, it is the first report of perianal glands adenocarcinoma from Iran.

Abstract:

Case description- A three-month-old male German Shepherd DOG, with signs of instability to stand, ataxia and radiographic symptoms of chondrodysplasia is presented. The symptoms were developed since birth.Clinical Findings- On physical examination, the affected pup did not show any swelling, pain or other abnormality in the long bones by palpation, but he had ataxia in walking. Ocular examinations revealed no lesions. In radiography, the distal right and left ulnar metaphysic were flattened and the physes were much wider than normal. The carpal bones were smaller in size than those in normal age. An increased radiopacity (sclerotic band) in the metaphyseal part of both radial and ulnar bones was observed adjacent to the physes. Radiographs were also taken from ribs and there was no abnormality in costochondral junctions.Treatment and outcome- There is no specific treatment for this disorder. The pain can be alleviated with anti-inflammatory/analgesic drugs (eg. aspirin). In this case, the DOG was euthanized upon the owner’s request. According to the radiographic findings and our clinical observation, chondrodysplasia was diagnosed.Clinical Relevance- There is no definitive treatment for such cases and the management program depends on the owner and the veterinarian decisions. It is better to stop breeding of these animals.

Abstract:

Trypanosoma are extra-erythrocytic, protozoan parasites of domestic and wild animals. It is transmitted by biting flies and a cause of fever, anemia, myocarditis and corneal opacity. In the present study, Trypanosoma infection is reported in a male bull DOG of two years age at Lahore, Pakistan. Clinical signs and symptoms of infection are recorded. Confirmation of case was done by microscopic examination of Trypanosoma organism in thick blood smear. Furthermore, their effect on certain hematological parameters was studied and concluded that there was decrease of hemoglobin (Hb) concentration and packed cell volume (PCV) while erythrocytes sedimentation rate (ESR) was increased in the infected DOG. The animal was successfully treated with single dose of diminazene diaceturate at the dose rate of 3.5 mg/kg body weight, intramuscularly alongwith the supportive therapy.

Abstract:

Cardiac manifestations of the hydatid cyst are relatively uncommon. Cardiac involvement may lead to the compression of vital organs, pulmonary hypertension, pericardial effusion, and even anaphylaxis. A 45-year-old woman presented to the Emergency Department of Tehran Heart Center with chest pain. Cardiac examination revealed relatively muffled heart sounds. Echocardiography demonstrated a round echolucent well-defined mass (47 × 25 mm) on the base and the mid lateral wall of the left ventricle (LV) without septation. Computed tomography angiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large (52 mm) exophytic mass originating from the lateral wall of the LV with upward growth between the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and the left circumflex artery with no LV cavity obliteration. Coronary angiography showed upward displacement in the LAD with significant compressive narrowing. The patient underwent mass resection and grafting of the LAD. During surgery after the incision of the pericardium, the hydatid cyst entity of the mass was revealed. Hydatid cysts covered the anterolateral surface of the LV with adhesion to the pericardium. The patient recovered from the surgery uneventfully. Pathology report and immunological assays confirmed the diagnosis. During a 6-month postoperative follow-up period, she remained asymptomatic with complete recovery and no recurrence.

Abstract:

The present case report describes a unique instance of a 70-year-old male presenting with high-grade fever, severe respiratory distress, and drowsiness. He was diagnosed with Malassezia pachydermatis fungemia, attributed to his proximity to pet DOGs. Treatment with empirical broad-spectrum antibiotics and echinocandin antifungal agents resulted in no improvement in the patient’s condition. Upon switching to fluconazole, the patient showed gradual improvement after three days and achieved complete resolution of the infection within two weeks. This report highlights a rare case of bloodstream infection caused by Malassezia pachydermatis and underscores the importance of thorough history-taking in diagnosing rare conditions.
