Abstract: 

Background: Finding new tolerable methods in weight loss has largely been an issue of interest for specialists. Present study compared a novel method of calorie shifting DIET (CSD) with classic calorie restriction (CR) on weight loss in overweight and obese subjects.Methods: Seventy-four subjects (body mass index ³25; 37) were randomized to 4 weeks control DIET, 6 weeks CSD or CR DIETs, and 4 weeks follow-up period. CSD consisted of three phases each lasts for 2 weeks, 11 days calorie restriction which included four meals every day, and 4 h fasting between meals follow with 3 days self-selecting DIET. CR subjects receive determined low calorie DIET. Anthropometric and metabolic measures were assessed at different time points in the study.Results: Four weeks after treatment, significant weight, and fat loss started (6.02 and 5.15 kg) and continued for 1 month of follow-up (5.24 and 4.3 kg), which was correlated to the restricted energy intake (P<0.05). During three CSD phases, resting metabolic rate tended to remain unchanged. The decrease in plasma glucose, total cholesterol, and triacylglycerol were greater among subjects on the CSD DIET (P<0.05). Feeling of hunger decreased and satisfaction increased among those on the CSD DIET after 4 weeks (P<0.05).Conclusions: The CSD DIET was associated with a greater improvement in some anthropometric measures, Adherence was better among CSD subjects. Longer and larger studies are required to determine the long-term safety and efficacy of CSD DIET.

Abstract: 

Background: Over the past twenty years, fertility problems have increased dramatically. At least 25 percent of couples planning a baby will have trouble conceiving, and more and more couples are turning to fertility treatments to help them have a family. Eating a fertility DIET in preparation for pregnancy and to boost fertility is one of the most powerful health changes everyone can make.It is true, food can increase sperm production and save partner from indecently expensive infertility treatments when they want to start a family. Here are some good health tips for men to stay fertile and potent.Materials and Methods: This study is a comprehensive literature review from 1990 to 2011 with keywords including infertility, healthy and DIET, is carried out by searching Iranian and International databases including Iran Medex, Iran Doc, Pubmed, Sience Direct and Ovid.Results: Nutrients in food for increasing fertility are:1. Selenium: This is an unusual mineral that increases the motility of sperms. Selenium rich food increase sperm’s mobility and thus raises the chances of conception.Foods: Cottage cheese, eggs, chicken, turkey and nuts.2. Zinc: This a very vital mineral required for regulating body’s testosterone level. Testosterone as is the hormone responsible for male reproductive functions. Until and unless men have sufficient Zinc in their body, testosterone is not produced in adequate amounts which in turn reduce sperm count. Foods: Abundantly available in red meat, seafood and eggs. Vegetarians need to watch it. Have pumpkin seeds and oatmeal.3. Vitamin A: The Vitamin A rich food increases the value of sperm production by making sure that the sperms that are produced are healthy and agile. If men have a deficiency of this vitamin then their sperms will be slow and lazy, not good enough for conception. Foods: Carrots are best but red chilli peppers, spinach, iceberg lettuce, broccoli and dry fruits like apricots too will be good for increasing fertility.4. Vitamin C: We probably consume citrus foods for the protection against cold but the antioxidants in them help ‘cleanse’ the sperms. They get rid of toxins and purify the semen by extracting free radicals. Foods: Oranges, lemon, red and yellow bell peppers, tomatoes are foods that increase fertility.5. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: These are special boosters that when present in the blood increases the blood circulation of the male reproductive organs hence giving energy and boosting potent sperm production. Foods: Found mainly in fish like Salmon and Sardines. Walnuts also could be an alternative for vegetarians.Conclusion: Both partners should follow the DIETary recommendations .Although it goes without saying that a healthy DIET is crucial to a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby, many people are unaware of the fact that DIET can help to correct hormone imbalances that may affect your ability to conceive. There are also certain foods and drinks that are known to lower fertility.

Abstract: 

INTRODUCTION: EPILEPSY IS A DISORDER OF BRAIN ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY THAT RESULTS IN RECURRENT SEIZURES. THE TYPE OF SEIZURE DEPENDS ON THE PORTION OF THE BRAIN AFFECTED.WHILE THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT CAUSES OF SEIZURES, INCLUDING BRAIN TUMOR, HEAD INJURY, STROKE, AND ALCOHOL WITHDRAWAL. DESPITE CONTINUED ADVANCEMENTS IN ANTICONVULSANT DEVELOPMENT, APPROXIMATELY 30% OF PATIENTS WITH EPILEPSY HAVE REFRACTORY SEIZURES, AND SO THERE REMAINS A SIGNIFICANT DEMAND FOR ADDITIONAL OPTIONS. A NUMBER OF DIETARY MODIFICATIONS, NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS, AND HORMONES HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE BENEFICIAL FOR SOME PATIENTS WITH EPILEPSY. KETOGENIC DIETS MAY BE ALSO EFFECTIVE FOR ADULT STATUS EPILEPTICUS AND ADULT EPILEPSY. Abstract: 

29th of May has been convened as the World Digestive Health Day (WDHD) by the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) since 2005. This event is an opportunity to raise public awareness on topics related to gastrointestinal tract diseases and health. The theme of 2016 is “DIET and the gut”.The traditional approach to DIET in gastroenterology practice is to advise patients to avoid certain foods to control their symptoms and /or diseases.The classic example of causative role of food in a disease is celiac disease for which the main management is gluten free DIET (GFD).1 In patients with lactase or fructase deficiency, ingestion of lactose or fructose would lead to flatulence. Many such patients have learned to avoid certain foods. Food allergy is yet another example of food as a cause of disease. Examples include milk and wheat allergy. The latter should not be confused with celiac disease because of different pathogenesis and clinical presentations.
