Abstract:

The stable colloidal dispersions of magnetic nano-particles in nematic liquid crystals are called ferronematics. Their behaviour in magnetic fields depends on various parameters such as anchoring energy, magnetic anisotropy, and shape and volume fraction of the particles. In the present paper, the threshold field is obtained for these colloidal nematics. Then, the influence of magnetic anisotropy, cell thickness, magnetic moment, and volume fraction of the particles are discussed. It is found that due to the influence of some effective parameters, the threshold field changes when compared to pure nematic liquid crystals. The obtained results are consistent with the reported experimental results.

Abstract:

cement is used as the most widely used and common soil stabilizer. However, due to the adverse environmental effects of cement, the need to use geopolymers is important because of the favorable environmental aspects as a suitable alternative to cement. In this study, geopolymer based on lime and nanomaterials, which includes nanoclucosilica , was used to stabilize kaolinite . Various parameters such as type of nanomaterials, amount of nanomaterials, the ratio of alkaline activating solution and the curing time were considered as factors affecting the behavior of stabilized samples. To evaluate the effect of geopolymer and nanomaterials on the mechanical behavior of the samples, unrestricted compressive strength and tensile strength and melting cycle tests were performed, which were the main criteria for comparing the samples. On other hand, XRD and SEM analysis were performed to investigate the microstructure of the stabilized soil. The results show that fiber-based and nanomaterial based geopolymers are a suitable alternative to cementitious materials in soil stabilization, so that the addition of fibers and nanomaterials to the soil increases the strength and improves the mechanical behavior of the samples. other hand, with increasing the amount of nanomaterials to 5% (and alkali solution), the compressive and tensile strength of the samples increases. The obtained strengths have been compared with the strength of cement-stabilized samples. the results of microstructural analysis show Gives a strong reaction to chemical additives and the formation of aluminosilicate gels in geopolymer compounds, which in turn increases the soil bearing capacity and stabilizes it.

Abstract:

In this study, a new method for antibacterialization of historical cotton fabrics was evaluated. Due to the fact that the desired results of the application of nanomaterials in the field of protection of historical textiles in Iran have not been recorded so far, the antibacterial properties of titanium dioxide nanocloid on historical cotton fabrics were investigated. The experimental sample was prepared by simulating a study sample and then sprayed titanium dioxide nanocloid on it and the samples were aged for 72 hours. Scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was used to observe the distribution of nanoparticles on the surface of fabric fibers and to control its antibacterial properties, bacterial culture was used in nutrient agar-based salt medium. Electron microscopy showed the presence of nanoparticles on the surface of the fabric fibers. Subsequently, culturing Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis in saline medium resulted in 60 % reduction in Pseudomonas aeruginosa growth and 30 % reduction in Bacillus subtilis in the presence of nanomaterials, which can be improved by optimizing the method, quality and number of nanoparticles. In addition, due to the observed color change in the fabric after aging of the samples and the importance of this in the preservation of historical monuments, optimization of the colloidal solution used is necessary.

Abstract:

Background: The optimal colloid solution for the treatment of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) remains to be established. Objective: We aimed to compare artificial COLLOIDS (AC) with human albumin (HA) for the treatment of OHSS. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, data for OHSS participants were collected from a national inpatient database in Japan. The participants received intravenous fluid management with AC (n = 156) or HA (n = 127). We compared the two groups in terms of the length of stay, development of post-treatment complications, and termination surgery. Results: In multivariable linear regression analyses for log-transformed length of stay with reference to the OHSS participants receiving AC, the regression coefficient (95% confidence interval) in participants receiving HA was 0. 03 (-0. 04-0. 09, p = 0. 42). Thromboembolism occurred in two participants in the HA group and three participants in the AC group. Two participants in the HA group suffered renal failure during hospitalization. No participants underwent termination surgery in the two groups. Conclusions: The present results showed comparable efficacy between AC and HA for the treatment of OHSS. There were no significant differences in post-treatment complications between the two groups.
