Abstract:

Aims Patients with Fibromyalgia SYNDROME (FMS) have very low psychological flexibility that can lead to severe pain, depression, and other psychiatric disorders. This study aims to evaluate the effect of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on depression, CHRONIC FATIGUE and pain intensity in patients with FMS. Methods & Materials This is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest/posttest/follow-up design. A total of 40 patients with FMS referred to Bu Ali Hospital in Tehran, Iran during 2019-2020 were selected using a convenience sampling method and randomly assigned into two groups of intervention (n=20) and waitlist control (n=20). The group ACT was presented at 8 sessions for both groups. Participants completed the Beck Depression Inventory, the McGill Pain Questionnaire, and Krupp’, s FATIGUE Severity Scale before, immediately after, and three months after the intervention. Repeated measures Analysis of Covariance was used to analyze the collected data. Findings Treatment based on ACT method had a significant effect on reducing depression, CHRONIC FATIGUE, and pain intensity in patients with FMS (P=0. 001). Conclusion ACT can reduce depression, pain severity, and CHRONIC FATIGUE through acceptance of and adaptation to the disease conditions and better interpersonal relationships.

Abstract:

Introduction: The FATIGUE is one of the most common complications in patients with CHRONIC obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which can affect all aspects of their lives and caused many problems. The aim of this study was to determine predictors of FATIGUE among these patients. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was don among 70 patients with COPD selected by convenience sampling method from Raze Hospital of Rasht, in 2015. Demographic and multidimensional FATIGUE inventory questionnaires (Including five dimensions: covering General FATIGUE (GF), Physical FATIGUE (PF), Reduced Activity (RA), Reduced Motivation (RM) and Mental FATIGUE (MF)) were completed by them. Descriptive and inferential statistics were done by SPSS version 19.Results: The age average of the patients was 70.5±11.07 years. The majority of patients were male, illiterate and farmers. The highest and the lowest mean score were seen in physical and mental dimensions respectively. Using multiple regression model, age (P=0.001) and heart disease (P=0.042) are considered as predictors of FATIGUE score which explained 49% of the variability in FATIGUE score (R2=0.49). Age and heart disease were predictors of general FATIGUE (R2=0.39). Predictor of physical FATIGUE (R2=0.27), decreased activity (R2=0.29) and decreased motivation (R2=0.32) was age. Also predictors of mental FATIGUE were heart disease and the number hospitalizations (R2=0.41).Conclusion: Besides health care and nursing interventions, it is important to take into account demographic factors and morbidities and accordingly have psychological interventions based on comprehensive management FATIGUE in patients with COPD.

Abstract:

Abstract:

BACKGROUND: Affective temperament and emotional expression can be important in the mental and physical consequences of patients with cancer. This study aimed to determine the role of affective temperament and emotional expression in predicting CHRONIC FATIGUE in patients with cancer. METHODS: 110 patients with cancer, hospitalized in the surgery and hematology wards of Fatemi and Imam Khomeini Hospitals in Ardabil City, Iran, in autumn of 2016, were selected by purposive sampling and participated in this cross-sectional study. The Affective and Emotional Composite Temperament Scale (AFECTS), Berkeley Expressivity Questionnaire (BEQ), and Chalder FATIGUE Scale (CFQ) were used to collect data. The collected data were analyzed by correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis using SPSS software. RESULTS: CHRONIC FATIGUE positively correlated with depressive (r = 0. 69, P < 0. 01), anxious (r = 0. 59, P < 0. 01), apathetic (r = 0. 64, P < 0. 01), dysphoric (r = 0. 37, P < 0. 01), volatile (r = 0. 61, P < 0. 01), irritable (r = 0. 36, P < 0. 01), disinhibited (r = 0. 33, P < 0. 01), and obsessive (r = 0. 52, P < 0. 01) affective temperaments, but it negatively correlated with cyclothymic (r =-0. 35, P < 0. 01), hyperthymic (r =-0. 62, P < 0. 01), euphoric (r =-0. 69, P < 0. 01), and euthymic (r =-0. 21, P < 0. 01) affective temperaments. Also, it was found that there was a negative relationship between CHRONIC FATIGUE and emotional expression (r =-0. 27, P < 0. 01). Results of regression analysis showed that 79% of the total variance of CHRONIC FATIGUE was explained by affective temperaments. In addition, 27% of the total variance of the CHRONIC FATIGUE was explained by emotional expressiveness. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that we can consider the affective temperament and emotional expression as psychological factors underlying the CHRONIC FATIGUE in patients with cancer.

Abstract:

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of mediator of health promoting lifestyle on the relationship between CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME and personality factors in the staff of Amiralmomenin Hospital in Tabriz. Method: The methodology of current study was in the framework of correlational design. Sample of study included 100 personnel of Tabriz Amiralmomenin Hospital who were selected through random sampling. Data collection was conducted applying Jason’ s CHRONIC FATIGUE questionnaire and Neura’ s questionnaire of five personality factor and Walker's Lifestyle Improvement. A structural equation model was used to analyze the data. Results: The results indicate the role of mediator of health promoting lifestyle in relation to CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME with personality factors. According to the findings, the relationship between CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME and personality factors such as; Neuroticism(0/583), Extroversion(-0/404), Openness(-0/186), Experiences (-0/383), conscientious(-0/231) and Healthy lifestyle(-0/472). Conclusion: The results indicate the role of mediator of health promoting lifestyle in relation to CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME and personality factors. The effect of CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME is directly related to personality factors and the health promotion lifestyle as a mediator variable has an indirect effect on this relationship.
