Abstract:

Introduction and purpose: the potential of resilience is regarded as a determiner for preventing and decreasing burnout resulted from occupational stresse.Among the occupations, nursing is the most stressful ones. The optimistic psychology view tries to increase the capability of a person instead of solving the problem and this is the main idea behind resilience. This study has investigated the relationship between resilience and Occupational burnout of nurses. Methods: the research method is descriptive- correlation. The sample of the study was 426 nurses from governmental section of Kermanshah. In this study Maslash burnout (MBI) and Conroe- Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC) were used. The data was analyzed by SPSS.Finding: the results showed that there is a relationship between resilience general borne out and emotional boring and depersonalization (personality metamorphosis) index at (P<0.001). Moreover, there is a relationship between resilience and personal efficiency feeling at (P<0.01). No relationship was found between resilience demography features. Conclusion: since resilience is one of predictors of decreasing burn out in nursing, it is suggested to include teaching resilience courses in the syllabus of nurses.

Abstract:

Background: Nurses’ Job satisfaction and burnout are two important components of health care organizations. Nurses are the majority of hospital personnel so these two important organizational variables have a direct relation to quality of nursing services and community health and also have crucial role in organizational goal achievement.Method: This is an analytic-descriptive study which was done in 2015 on 299 nurses who worked in Hamadan educational and treatment centers. They were selected based on stratified proportional random sampling. Data were collected by Minnesota job satisfaction and Maslach's burnout questionnaires. Using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression) data were analyzed by SPSS 16 software. Results: Findings showed that nurses regarding their job satisfaction were moderately satisfied and had low level of burnout. There was a significant and negative correlation between nurses' job satisfaction and emotional exhaustion (r=-0.664, p<0.01). There was a significant and positive correlation between nurses' job satisfaction and personal accomplishment (r=0.449, p<0.01). There was a significant and negative correlation between nurses' job satisfaction and depersonalization (r=-.503, p<0.01). Job satisfaction dimensions such as extrinsic and intrinsic satisfaction predicted ( 44% and 20%) of variance in emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment respectively. Intrinsic satisfaction predicted (26%) of variance in depersonalization as well .Conclusion: job satisfaction dimensions were significant predictors of nurses' burnout. So, paying more attention to factors that increase job satisfaction by health system policy-makers can decrease nurses' burnout.

Abstract:

The rate of middle age burnout in human professions and its causal factors were studied. The sample consisted of 1473 middle age adults working in Boniad-e-Shahid and Isargaran Foundation from eight provinces of Iran who were selected by stratified random sampling. The participants completed a demographic form, the Maslach burnout Inventory (MBI; Maslach & Jackson, 1981), and a researcher-made burnout factors inventory. Findings indicated that 47%, 24%, and 29% of participants had high, moderate, and low levels of burnout, respectively. The differences between participants ' levels of burnout were significant in all burnout factors. The differences between participants with high and low record of services were significant in all of the burnout subscales (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and loss of personal accomplishment) but were not significant in total burnout scale. The effects of workload, control, rewards and values system factors on burnout rate were significant. Implications of these findings in relation to prevention and treatment of middle age burnout as a potential event during psychological development process in human professional contexts were discussed.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Nurses are exposed to different types of stresses during their work. As a stressor, "burnout" is the decrease of personal adjustment with chronic stress leading to physical and emotional discomfort, negative attitude towards the profession while on duty. According to Maslach's theory organizational factors, interpersonal relationships, and intra- personal factors are the major causes of burnout. This condition brings about a lot of complications in one's family, personal and social life, and organization. This survey was designed to evaluate burnout rate among nursing staff in teaching hospitals in Birjand.Materials and methods: This descriptive- cross sectional study was performed on all nursing staff of teaching hospitals in Birjand, who were selected through census sampling .Data gathering means were a multisegmental questionnaire including demographic characteristics, and Maslach burnout inventory (MBI); to evaluate emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal accomplishment. In order to analyze the data, statistical tests including X2, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and independent t-test at the significant level P≤0.05 were used. Results: More than third (35.5%) of the individuals, reported weak emotional exhaustion, 54.2% intense depersonalization, and 37.5% intense lack of personal accomplishment. The nurses' professional burnout rate between male and female in the domain of emotional exhaustion (P=0.02) and in depersonalization (P=0.034) were significant. Lack of personal accomplishment mean score was also varied between married and unmarried subjects (P=0.028). There was also a significant difference in the frequency of depersonalization in different working shifts (P=0.029).Conclusion: Job burnout is a common phenomenon among nurses. It is related to a number of factors such as working condition, work experience, high workload, stresses, job satisfaction, gender and hardships of working condition. Therefore it is suggested that these factors be surveyed more precisely and find ways to reduce job burnout.

Abstract:

Introduction: burnout is a specific kind of occupational stress reaction prevalent among human service professions such as nursing. It is characterized by feeling of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment. Occupational support is a factor reducing stress in workplace. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of burnout and relationship between it and occupational support in nurses.Materials and Methods: In a descriptive study, 257 nurses were randomly selected through stratified sampling, and were classificated into eight medical educational hospitals in Rasht. Participants completed MBI (Maslach burnout inventory) and Spooner occupational support questionnaires. T test, chi square test, Fisher’s exact test and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results: Emotional exhaustion was low in 51.4% and it was moderate to high in 48.6%, depersonalization was low in 94.2% and moderate to high in 5.8%, reduced accomplishment was low in 33.9% and it was moderate to high in 66.1%.Coworker support in most nurses (82.9%) was moderate to high and manager support in 73.6% of the nurses was moderate to high. There was a negative correlation between manager support and emotional exhaustion and a positive correlation between dialysis unit and depersonalization and a negative correlation between age and depersonalization. Conclusion: Findings indicate that nursing managers can increase organizational support and consequently prevent nursing burnout. In doing so, high level of nursing care and job satisfaction are achieved.

Abstract:

Dealing with burnout syndrome in nursing staff who are constantly faced with work stress has been considered by many researchers in recent years, because many people believe that the occurrence of such a syndrome has many negative consequences for organizations. The main purpose of the present study was to use a meta-synthesis approach to identify and prioritize the effective factors as well as the consequences of burnout in nurses. For this purpose, Sandelowski and Barroso’ s seven-step method was used to extract contents from internal and external articles over a 10-year period. The MAXQDA 2020 software was used to analyze the conceptual model and deduce the results. The results of the literature review were presented in the form of 41 indices and 8 factors that were presented in two general concepts. Finally, considering the frequency and severity of each of the factors, a comprehensive conceptual model of burnout was designed for nurses. Executives of organizations, especially in the healthcare field, are expected to use the designed model and results to reduce this organizational issue and increase the productivity of their staff.

Abstract:

Background: burnout during stressful dental residency courses can adversely affect the personal abilities and competencies of residents. This study aimed to investigate burnout and its relationship with spiritual intelligence in Mashhad Dental School residents in 2019-2018. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study, approximately all the dental residents of Mashhad Dental School participated in the survey. Demographic information questionnaire, Maslach burnout questionnaire, and David B. King’, s (2008) Spiritual Intelligence Scale were used to collect data. Finally, SPSS software (version 20) was employed for data analysis. Results: Overall, 53 women (52%) and 49 men (48%) with a mean age of 27. 83 years participated in this study (a response rate of 97%). The mean score of burnout was 58. 75. Residents also had a low reduced personal accomplishment, moderate emotional fatigue, and moderate depersonalization. The mean scores of spiritual intelligence and its sub-scales, including critical existential thinking, production of personal meaning, awareness transcendence, and consciousness expansion were 51. 91, 15. 66, 13. 19, and 14. 67, respectively. Personal accomplishment was significantly correlated with overall spiritual intelligence (P < 0. 001, r = 0. 404) and its sub-scales, including producing personal meaning (P = 0. 009, r = 0. 26), transcendental awareness (P < 0. 001, r = 0. 382) critical thinking (P = 0. 04, r = 0. 2), and conscious state expansion (P < 0. 001, r = 0. 356). Eventually, there was no significant difference between burnout and spiritual intelligence and their sub-scales regarding gender, marital status, and school year (P < 0. 05). Conclusions: Mashhad Dental residents showed moderate levels of emotional fatigue and spiritual intelligence. Accordingly, there is a need for planning strategies to reduce burnout.
