Abstract

 BACKGROUND: SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS (SLE) IS A SEVERE SYSTEMIC AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE WITH HETEROGENEOUS CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS. RECENT EXPERIMENTAL AND CLINICAL STUDIES HAVE PLACED NEW EMPHASIS ON THE ROLE OF TOLL-LIKE RECEPTORS (TLRS) IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF SLE. TLRS ARE IMPORTANT INNATE IMMUNE RECEPTORS FOR THE IDENTIFICATION AND CLEARANCE OF PATHOGENS.
