Abstract

IN THE NEW ECONOMIC ERA IN WHICH THE CREATION OF INNOVATIVE GOODS AND SERVICES IS INCREASINGLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE FAVORABLE PERFORMANCE, IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE RATE OF INVESTMENT IN INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL AS THE INTANGIBLE ASSET OF FIRMS IS EXCEEDING THE TANGIBLE ONES. CONSIDERING THE HIGH RELIANCE OF SMES ON HUMAN CAPITAL, IT IS EXPECTED THAT THIS TREND WOULD BE EVEN MORE EVIDENT IN SMES. REGARDLESS OF THE INDUSTRY IN WHICH THEY OPERATE, HIGH GROWTH SMES CAN BE DISTINGUISHED FROM OTHERS IN THE KNOWLEDGE-INTENSE CATEGORY. THIS RESEARCH IS INTENDED TO INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE-EFFECT RELATIONSHIP OF FOUR INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL ELEMENTS NAMELY HUMAN CAPITAL, INNOVATION CAPITAL, PROCESS CAPITAL AND CUSTOMER CAPITAL AS WELL AS STUDYING THEIR FINAL IMPACT ON INNOVATION PERFORMANCE IN THE CONTEXT OF HIGH GROWTH SMES. THE DATA COLLECTED BY A SURVEY OF 95 HIGH GROWTH SME OWNERS. STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODELING WITH PARTIAL LEAST SQUARE (PLS) APPROACH WAS EMPLOYED TO TEST THE HYPOTHESIS. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT INTELLECTUAL ELEMENTS HAVE SIGNIFICANT AND POSITIVE IMPACT ON INNOVATION PERFORMANCE OF HIGH GROWTH SMES AMONG CUSTOMER CAPITAL.
