 BACKGROUND: THE ACYLTHIOPHENE MOIETY IS AN IMPORTANT BUILDING BLOCK FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF FUNCTIONAL ORGANIC MATERIALS, AND BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS [1]. MUCH ATTENTION HAS BEEN GIVEN TO THE DEVELPLOPMENT OF GENERAL AND EFFICIENT METHODS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF ACYLTHIOPHENES. TYPICAL METHODS INVOLVE, TRANSITION-METAL-CATALYZED, CARBONYLATIVE COUPLING REACTION [2-3]. THESE METHODS FOR THE FUNCTIONLIZTION ELECTRON-RICH FIVE-MEMBERED HETRAROMATIC COMPOUNDS OFTEN HAVE SOME DISADVANTAGES...
