Abstract

BACKGROUND AND AIM: URINARY TRACT INFECTION (UTI) IS ONE OF THE COMMONEST INFECTIONS ENCOUNTERED BY CLINICIANS.USUALLY URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS ARE EASILY TREATED WITH A SHORT COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS, ALTHOUGH RESISTANCE TO MANY OF THE ANTIBIOTICS USED TO TREAT THIS CONDITION IS INCREASING.METHODS: THE PRESENT STUDY WAS A RETROSPE CTIVE STUDY PERFORMED IN SINA HOSPITAL’S MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY AND CENTRAL LABORATORY OF THE PROVINCESITUATED INTABRIZ CITY FROM APRIL 2011 TO MARCH 2013. TOTAL 5159 RECORDS OF PATIENTS AND THEIR URINE SAMPLES WERE TESTED RESULTS: OUT OF 5159 URINE CULTURES, 2848 CASES (55.20%) WERE OUTPATIENT AND 2311 CASES (44.80%) WERE INPATIENT.602 CASES (11.66%) WERE POSITIVE FOR PATHOGENIC MICROORGANISMS (BACTERIA).346 (57.47%) PATIENTS WERE WOMEN AND 256 (42.53%) WERE MEN. KLEBSIELLA (E. COLI) WAS THE SECCOND COMMON ISOLATE (9.78%) AFTER E. COLI. SUSCEPTIBILITY OF KLEBSIELLA TO GENTAMICIN WAS 63.4%, IMIPENEM 54.5%, AMIKACIN 40.38% AND THE HIGHEST RESISTANCE RATE OF KLEBSIELLA WAS AGAINST NALIDIXICACID (44.6%)….
