Abstract

 BACKGROUND: ARSENIC, A HIGHLY TOXIC POLLUTANT, IS WIDELY DISPERSED IN THE ENVIRONMENT, WHERE IT IS INTRODUCED MAINLY FROM PESTICIDES AND FERTILIZERS, GLASSWARE PRODUCTION, AND METALLURGIC INDUSTRIAL WASTE. IN NATURAL WATERS, ARSENIC IS PREDOMINANTLY PRESENT IN INORGANIC FORMS OF AS (III) AND AS (V). SO, TO OBTAIN COMPLETE INFORMATION ON THE TOXICITY, MOBILITY BIOAVAILABILITY, ETC. OF ARSENIC, IT IS NECESSARY TO SPECIATE THE DIFFERENT OXIDATION STATES [1].
