A NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF SEISMIC PERFORMANCE OF BUILDING STRUCTURES WITH YIELDING DAMPERS

Abstract

 IN RECENT YEARS BY INCREASING CONSTRUCTION COSTS, THEIR SEISMIC PERFORMANCE HAVE BECAME MORE IMPORTANT. IN OTHER SIDE SEISMIC DESIGN WITH USUAL METHODS, FOR EXAMPLE, METHODS DEPEND ON “IRANIAN STANDARD NO. 2800” DOES NOT SATISFY IMMEDIATE OPERATION PERFORMANCE OF STRUCTURE AFTER EARTHQUAKE AND IN MANY CASES IMPOSE HUGE RECONSTRUCTION COSTS FOR OPERATION IN FUTURE. SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHANGE DESIGN METHOD AND ALSO USING NEW STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS. IN THIS INVESTIGATION A FIVE-STOREY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING WHIT MRF SYSTEM HAS BEEN DESIGNED WHIT DIFFERENT BASE SHEAR VALUES, BASED ON THE “IRANIAN STANDARD NO. 2800” AND THEIR SEISMIC BEHAVIOR HAS BEEN STUDIED AFTER ADDING TADAS DAMPERS. THESE DAMPERS AS A JOINT BETWEEN BEAM AND CHEVRON BRACE DECREASE DEMAND ENERGY OF STRUCTURE AND INCREASE SEISMIC ENERGY DISSIPATION BY YIELDING THEIR SELVES AND FINALLY AVOID DAMAGE IN STRUCTURE. RESULTS SHOW THAT ELASTIC BEHAVIOR OF STRUCTURE IN EARTHQUAKE, INCREASING DAMPING UP TO EIGHT-TIMES, DECREASING STRUCTURE DEMAND AND TARGET DISPLACEMENT UP TO 2.5 TIMES AND FINALLY IMPROVEMENT OF SEISMIC BEHAVIOR OF STRUCTURE ARE ADVANTAGES OF USING TADAS DAMPERS.
