Abstract

 BACKGROUND AND AIM: MOST MENTAL DISORDERS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH IMPAIRED QUALITY OF LIFE. THE PRESENT STUDY WAS TO ASSESS THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN FEMALES WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER.METHODS: WE ASSESSED QUALITY OF LIFE IN 37 MEDICATION-FREE FEMALE PATIENTS WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER WITHOUT CURRENT SUBSTANCE ABUSE OR DEPRESSION AND 37 HEALTHY FEMALE CONTROLS BY MEDICAL OUTCOMES SHORT-FORM-36 (SF-36 V1) QUESTIONNAIRES. FOR ANALYZING DATA WE USED "INDEPENDENT-SAMPLE T-TEST" FOR COMPARING DATA OF TWO GROUPS.RESULTS: BPD FEMALES PARTICIPATED IN THIS STUDY HAD SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER QUALITY OF LIFE THAN HEALTH CONTROL WOMEN IN "MENTAL COMPONENT SUMMERY" AND "PHYSICAL COMPONENT SUMMERY" (P<0.0001), ALSO IN ALL EIGHT DOMAINS AS FOLLOWS: "PHYSICAL FUNCTIONING", "ROLE LIMITATIONS DUE TO PHYSICAL PROBLEMS", "ROLE LIMITATIONS DUE TO EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS", "SOCIAL FUNCTIONING", "MENTAL HEALTH", "VITALITY", "GENERAL HEALTH" (P<0.0001) AND "PAIN" (P=0.004).CONCLUSION: OUR FINDINGS DEMONSTRATE WOMEN WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER SUFFERED A POORER QUALITY OF LIFE IN COMPARISON TO HEALTH CONTROL FEMALES. FOCUSING ON REASONS OF LOW QUALITY OF LIFE IN THESE PATIENTS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IN PREVENTION AND TREATMENT HEALTH PROGRAMS.
