Abstract

 WITH REGARD TO HIGH LEVEL OF REQUEST FOR HOUSING IN IRAN, BUILDING VIA TRADITIONAL METHODS CANNOT MEET ANNUAL HOUSING DEMAND. THEREFORE, IT IS NECESSARY TO MAKE USE OF NOVEL METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION BASED UPON NEW BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES TO FILL THIS NEED. MAKING PROPER DECISIONS TO ADOPT THE BEST BUILDING SYSTEM SEEMS DIFFICULT DUE TO THE VARIETY OF NOVEL BUILDING SYSTEMS. THE PRESENT STUDY AIMED AT CHOOSING AN OPTIMAL BUILDING METHOD WHICH SUITS THE SITUATIONS OF THE REGION. TO DO THIS, A DESCRIPTIVE-ANALYTIC METHOD WAS ADOPTED AND DATA COLLECTION WAS PERFORMED BY LIBRARY STUDY AND QUESTIONNAIRE. CONCERNING THE RESEARCH OBJECTIVE AS WELL AS QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE DATA, ANALYTIC HIERARCHY PROCESS WAS USED TO EVALUATE PERFORMANCE OF SOME BUILDING SYSTEMS. FOUR GROUPS OF CRITERIA WERE CONSIDERED INCLUDING ECONOMIC, TECHNICAL AND EXECUTIVE, PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE, AND ENVIRONMENTAL EVALUATION CRITERIA, EACH OF WHICH COMPRISES SEVERAL DIVISIONS. REGARDING THE LIMITATIONS AND SITUATIONS OF THE REGION, FOUR SUITABLE BUILDING SYSTEMS WERE SELECTED TO BE EVALUATED. THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM ANALYSIS BY EXPERT CHOICE SOFTWARE REVEALED THAT COLD-FORMED STEEL FRAMED STRUCTURES TECHNOLOGY (LSF) IS THE BEST BUILDING SYSTEM FOR THE REGION.
