Abstract

THIS STUDY INCLUDED TWO SITES REPRESENTED IN FOUR SOILS PEDONS DIFFER BY THEIR DEGREE OF DEVELOPMENT BECAUSE OF LANDFORM, ORGANIC MATTER, FLUCTION OF WATER TABLE, SALTS ACCUMULATION AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS. RESULTS OF XRD SHOWED A PRESENCE OF CHLORITIZATION PHENOMENON WHICH CAUSED CONVERSION OF MONTMORILLONITE CLAY TO THE CHLORITE MINERAL DURING THE DEPOSITION OF MG-HYDROXY INTERLAYER (BRUCITE) WITHIN MONTMORILLONITE INTERLAYERS. THIS PHENOMENON AFFECTS THE IMPORTANT EXCHANGE PROPERTIES OF SOIL SUCH AS SURFACE AREA AND CATION EXCHANGE CAPACITY. OCCURRENCE OF CHLORITIZATION WAS MOSTLY AT HORIZONS OF CLAYS SOIL WHICH HELD FLUCTION WATER TABLE AND SALTS ACCUMULATION LEADS TO EFFECTUAL CONDITIONS IN A COMPARISON WITH HORIZONS OF CLAY SOILS WHICH HELD ORGANIC MATTER REFERS TO THERE WERE SUITABLE CONDITIONS CONTROL AFFECTING OF ORGANIC MATTER IN ORDER TO RESULT CHLORITIZATION PHENOMENON ON EXPANSIBLE CLAY MINERALS (2:1).
