Abstract

THE REPRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS OF PHYTOSEIUS PLUMIFER (CANESTRINI & FANZAGO) WAS DETERMINED AT FIVE CONSTANT TEMPERATURES (15, 20, 25, 30 AND 35±1ºC), 65±5 RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND A PHOTOPERIOD OF 12: 12 H (L: D) ON ADULT STAGES OF RHYNCAPHYTOPTUS FICIFOLIAE KEIFER. THE HIGHEST VALUE OF NET FERTILITY RATE AND NET FECUNDITY RATE WAS 28.32 (EGGS/ FEMALE/DAY) AT 25ºC. ALSO THE MINIMUM OF NET FERTILITY RATE AND NET FECUNDITY RATE WERE 11.25 AND 14.43 (EGGS/ FEMALE/DAY), RESPECTIVELY AT 15ºC. THE MAXIMUM (1.24 EGGS/DAY) AND MINIMUM (0.40EGGS/DAY) OF MEAN FERTILITY EGGS PER DAY WERE OBSERVED AT 30ºC AND 15ºC, RESPECTIVELY. THE MEAN GROSS HATCH RATE OF THE EGGS RANGED FROM 78% TO 100 %, WHICH WAS LOWEST AT BOTH 15 AND 20ºC AND HIGHEST AT 25ºC. THE FINDING OF THIS STUDY WAS THE FIRST REPORT ON THE REPRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS OF P. PLUMIFER FED ON R. FICIFOLIAE AND CAN BE USED IN IPM PROGRAMS AGAINST THIS PEST.
