Abstract

AS WATER STRESS IS ONE OF THE MAIN ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS THAT ADVERSELY AFFECT PLANT GROWTH AND PRODUCTIVITY, THIS STUDY WAS CONDUCTED TO EVALUATE METHYL JASMONATE (MJ) EFFECTS ON DROUGHT RESISTANCE OF SAVORY (SATUREJA HORTENSISIS). TREATMENTS EXAMINED IN THIS STUDY WERE THREE LEVELS OF DROUGHT STRESS INCLUDING STRESS FREE CONDITIONS MILD STRESS AND SEVERE STRESS AND 4 CONCENTRATIONS OF MJ (0, 75, 150 AND 225 MM). RESULTS SHOWED THAT UNDER DROUGHT CONDITION, PLANT HEIGHT, LATERAL BRANCHES NUMBER, FRESH AND DRY WEIGHT AND RELATIVE WATER CONTENT DECREASED BUT PROLINE CONTENT INCREASED. APPLICATION OF MJ REDUCED ADVERSE EFFECTS OF DROUGHT STRESS, IMPROVED GROWTH PARAMETERS AND INCREASED PROLINE AND RELATIVE WATER CONTENT.
